Also, he isn't stalking little kids @ a school/parking lot. He's just trying to figure out who's targeting his son/their car before it gets out of hand. It may be door dings at first, then a dent on the hood. Next thing it may be a broken window or slashed tires.
Eh, all kids in this generation are brats. Since when is high school considered work? Let alone, being hard? These kids are 14-18. At that age you're expected to go to school and receive a provided education, it's common sense. You really don't have any other responsibilities. Kids need to stop priding themselves like completing high school is some huge achievement, and they deserve praise. The parents should not be bribed for something you're suppose to be doing.

Yeah, of course I was jealous of the handful of kids at my high school driving Hummers and other 50K+ vehicles. I'm in my mid 30's now with a career, I doubt these kids have ever worked harder than me lol. Why would I look down on someone who works hard?

I would've killed for a pos 2000 jetta when I was in high school.

Now you're spending hours out of your day, a grown man stalking little kids in the parking lot… If I were the school I'd have police remove you from the premises.

I am the victim here. All I am looking for is justice.

The school is reviewing the video. Still waiting.

You're right. All kids in this generation are brats.
So what's wrong with rewarding the ones who aren't?
This was never about grades or completing high school. It has always been about the trust between a parent and their child; something that OP mentioned in the beginning of the thread.

Honestly I hope you get them. I'm already mad some one threw an object and made dents and removed paint from my hood and rocker panel. I only had the car for three months. I paid out of my own pocket to fix. You deserve justice period. You paid for it with your hard earned money. I hope you get your damages fixed and repaired at the aggressors expense. They did the crime, they'll learn to do the time or $$$. IDC what some of these poster say, when it happens to them, they'll be just as crushed as you were.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that when I drove my BRZ to community college, 2 years ago, I actually felt I was more likely to get keyed/hit and run there then by some high schoolers. lol

Passing high-school is a piece of cake. All you need are strait Ds and you're set.

I'll...attempt to explain it to you. For all intents and purposes I'm going to assume you finished high school 25+ years ago. I'm 17. These days high school is essentially your life. Wake up at 5:40 am. Get to school by 7 am. Come home at 3:30pm, only to be sent 45 minutes later (so that time in between was wasted) on an extra-curricular activity that everyone present thinks is a waste of time (but it looks GUHD!). Come home at 6-7pm, only to start homework that lasts 5+ hours on average. In between being forced to decide whether to take a shower, eat with the family, or take a nap because you can't stay awake. Then the vicious cycle repeats. Homework during the weekend has been a common practice for decades, so I'll assume it was around the same amount of work back then.

In my freshman year my mom used to complain why I couldn't go to bed by 9:00pm and spend more time my friends like she was able to do in high school; she eventually gave up.

By the end of my Junior year I had a sleeping schedule similar to where I would fall asleep by 11:30pm, wake up at 12:30am to complete more work, and then fall asleep again at around 2:30am to wake up at 6:00pm.

Sure I have a well built resume, but I'm not even in the top 10% of my class.

Give youngsters more credit. Most parents "spoiling" their children realize how much harder their children are working than when they were in high school, and in kind give something that their children crave.

You may wonder why we seem so pissy and crave so much. Maybe we're driven to it. Maybe it's society's fault. Maybe it's our own fault. I am not an activist. I simply hope that the education system gets back on track before my kids are of age.

Edit: Mind you I go to a public school in California.

@carma143, what you're experiencing is expected in the executive, law, medical or small business ownership worlds. Should you desire, qualify for and land employment in one of those hyper-competitive careers, what you described is the typical lifestyle. You'll be amply rewarded, but looking for sympathy is seen as a weakness, not a virtue. Best to embrace it now, it could become your reality for the next 50 years.

I won't even describe what life is like on a military deployment into combat.

OTOH, there's something to be said for alternatives like running a shaved ice stand on Maui.

That kind of mindset isn't going to help you in future employment or in college.... The getting D's to pass part the rest is true about the whole staying late to work and waking early you gotta do what you gotta do but I find it hard to believe you do that if you get D's keep in mind I'm also in that 18-24 bracket but I work for things rather than having my parents pay for things for a grade I got because that's just me...

@carma143, so... you don't plan on going to college? Making D's and not being in the top 10 percent is a great mind set if you are planning not to go.

I'm about to graduate from college. Accounting degree with offers from top CPA firms in the country. Never did anything extracurricular in high school or college. Spent 0 time in high school on homework. Lots more in college. But I didn't do extracurriculars because I was working to pay for my stuff. High school is a piece of cake. At least it was 4.5 years ago.

That's true I find myself now in college actually trying way harder then I did in high school but it doesn't feel as difficult *off topic*
