Tire Chains - Thule CB-12 090

Just received a pair of tire chains.

I grew up in Montreal but live in North Carolina now. I was cocky and got my BRZ stuck 4 times during a fluke ice/snow storm last year late December. So this is my 2014 contingency plan.

Not going to be riding around with these. Just using them for 5-10mph one off situations. Generally good reviews but the occasional breakaway story with fender damage has me cautiously optimistic. They don't seem too sturdy. Again just gonna use these to get unstuck, not for cruising.

Oh yeah by the way this was my colleague pulling me out last year. Obviously the story of the Canadian getting stuck in the snow was a big hit at work.

Nice i was thinking of getting the same. Are they easy to put on? Do they loose tension easily?

You're running summer tires in the winter and your solution for the snow it to put chains on them? Not running proper winter rubber, which most likely would of solved the problem in the first case?

Really easy to put on. Took about 2 min. Not sure about losing tension ... just a preventative measure at this point. I'll post pics if I end up using them.

In NY where you live yeah it snows the whole season but here in NC it snows maybe once or twice a year if at all so snow tires are not cost effective or practical.

I agree winter tires are the way to go if you're dealing with snow daily. No question.

I understand that, but you could also run all season tires.

In fact, you could buy all seasons that have better grip than our stock tires.

It's not just that summer tires suck at snow, but they suck at temperatures basically under 50 degree Fahrenheit.

At least you have chains.

What part of North Carolina are you in? I've been considering a move to the High Country - I want the same weather as I have in New England, but am soooooo tired of how long winter lasts up here.

Wait a second. If those are the stock tires I think they are actually all weathers.

I bought an FR-S earlier this year, so not sure if it's relevant to the BRZ as well, but I remember having to sign a waiver stating that I would only use snow cables rather than the chains.
