I noticed the manual says not to use tire chains, due to clearance issues.
But that is with the stock size wheels/tires. Anybody have plans to run tire chains on non-stock wheels/tires? I am trying to buy a set of 2005 WRX wheels (16x6.5, 55mm offset), and will mount either 205/55-16 tires (1% larger diameter than stock), or 195/55-16 tires (0.7% smaller diameter than stock). Depending on what deals I find, I will most likely buy Michelin X-Ice tires, which are pretty good, but I like to have an option of chains if I can. For chains, I'd probably run some Thulle CG-9 self-adjusting chains, if they fit. Stock 205/45-17 tire OD is 625.1mm. 9mm chains would increase the outside diameter of the 205/55-16 tire from 631.7mm to 649.7mm. The 9mm chains would increase the OD of the 195/55-16 tire from 620.8 to 638.8mm. Has anybody done any tire clearance measurements yet? |

Doesn't it say to use a particular type of chain?: I believe there is reference to SAE class S devices such as spring/cable chains
example http://www.canadianchains.ca/Cobra-C...nger-_p_8.html I would suggest that these are really only for lingering packed snow or snowy mountain areas? |

I am also curious, I may be picking up an FR-S and will have to drive it over the pass.

I have the Thule 9mm chains and they fit fine on the stock wheels/tires.

My dealer specifically told me not to put chains on the car.
