Pump it up!
Is this a plug-in or battery unit? I never considered an impact tool until I saw the plug in the thread about track days. He said bring your battery impact tool and a spare battery to the track. Wondering if the battery ones are lame...

plenty of people use them for tire changes.

I'd get one but I just do it by hand and my car is pretty packed since i don't have a tire trailer

Just like you, I never liked the idea of using battery impact tools because they would be too weak for anything. My main job is property renovations and such so I use a lot of battery powered tools. I have to admit that Milwaukee M18 tools are hands down the best cordless tools ever. I have their 18v impact and it is more convenient than the air impact and also does a lot of jobs for the car. I would have to say, it can do around 80-85% of the jobs on the car. I have a slightly older one which is rated at 200 lbs of torque.

Battery unit. I only use it to take the lug nuts off but it is so much quicker than doing it by hand.

I've got the big battery pack (19.2V) and it is good for at least 5 or 6 tire changes. That's typically when I recharge it, even though it shows no sign of running low. I also have a small battery pack for my drill that can fit and that one is only good for a couple of changes before it runs out of juice. But the battery capacity is much smaller.

The impact also has more than enough torque to break free the bolts holding the wheel to the strut and the suspension cross member bolts. I don't remember the highest torque value for those off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it is over 110 ft/lb.

EDIT: Link to the model I have. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-c3-19...p-00917090000P

I bought the high capacity Li-Ion battery. They sell a version that comes with NiCad batteries included. Don't get that one.

Those included craftsman air tools suck. Get better tools. The psi matters a lot less than the scfm output for the compressor since every compressor can put enough pressure in the tank, but can it feed tools when that air is at or under 90psi tank pressure? Run tools at 90-110.

I run IR max line, especially the quiet series which are great for home use because they are quiet oiled iron compressor is nice for home usage also.

I've never thought of organizing my air tools like that. I've got all my air tools in with other similar tools, like the air hammer is in with the pry bars, pickle forks, etc. My impact guns are in a drawer with my ratchets and extensions. My die grider is in a drawer with my angle grinder... You get the picture. Keeping the tools like that would make maintenance faster. Did you make that shelf yourself? If not, where did it come from?

Easy solution: build a sound enclosure around your compressor with a baffled air vent. Some 2x4's and plywood lines w/ acoustic insulation will do the trick just fine.

I've built a few acoustic enclosures before. You'd be surprised how well they work. My generator is in one now and it's lined with spare wood siding from when my house was built. Looks/works awsome.
