How come the BMW S14 didn't make this list? Too much maintenance?

I wish I still had my S14 now, but at the time, yes valve adjustments was a bit of a strain on the budget. Based on history, the S14 should be on the list.

Honda rules the NA 4cylinder arena. I don't see anything touching them. Toyota needs to release a 2.0L VVTL-i engine that could do battle with the K20.

Sadly, I feel our FA20 is only mid-pack.

The old H22 was better than the later K20. Sounded better, you could hold it at 5 grand without your ears bleeding, and had the old-school VTEC punch. Who cares if the K was more receptive to bolt ons.

It wasn't that good of a motor. I'm not sure if the autech one or whatever it was called is really a production motor.

If you mean the SR20VE, you might have a point... really, just the head design though.

While out-put wasn't record breaking. the sr20 in DE, DET, or VE trim is an outstanding motor because of how stout the engine is.

for the time frame the sr20 was in use, it is one of the most durable engines you could find in a production car. In my opinion.

The 22R and the ford 2.3 liter that was used in the SVO mustang were also very stout four cylinders that were often used in certain types of racing.

I'm curious to see what people end up getting out of the ecoboost 2.3...

+1 for the Ford/Caterham/Cosworth Duratecs often found in Caterhams nowadays. Reliable, simple to work on, strong, moderately cheap.
