Anyone know how to push-start a BRZ limited with a dead battery? I've tried looking on the interwebs and haven't found a solution. This of course applies to all manual cars with a keyless ignition.
This is useful information me as well as other members may need someday. |

The same way you do with a key-ignition car?
If the battery is so dead that you can't even get the ignition to come on, then I think it might be a lost cause. I've never had to worry about it, LED interior lights and auto-headlights. The stereo turns off when battery voltage drops. If you have a dead battery, you probably have other issues or neglected the battery itself somehow. Are you asking becaues you have a dead battery? This should be a non-issue..

It's a "what if" question. I don't currently have a dead battery in my car. I just want to know if there is any difference because of a keyless ignition. If there isn't a difference then all the better because then more people know what to do if the cituation ever happens to them.

Assuming there's enough power for electronics and not starter, hit the push start twice without depressing clutch or brake to get the car to the "on" state. From there should be business as usual I would think.

I can't remember where, but I read somewhere that you can rig up a 9v battery through the cigarette lighter socket to give a car with push-button start enough power to turn on the ignition so that the car can be roll-started. I don't know if that would actually work with our cars, but it's an interesting idea.

Owners manual claims this car can't be started by push starting, but gives no other details (p. 398).

Sorry - just realized this may be a confusing post. I read the manual to mean roll starting the vehicle.

Can someone test it out and let us know? It might be necessary in an emergency situation.

Wow. I'm surprised the BRZ Limited supposedly can't be started with a dead battery when rolling. Is this true with all the BRZ and FRS versions? Maybe this is due to the fact that the computer is in control of nearly everything?

The cricket regulator takes up a whole lot of power to push enough pressure through the fuel rails.
Shoving a car with no gas in the cylinders won't get much farther than you can throw it, I recon. I've got jumper cables in my "What If" box.
