because both engines/transmissions are on the floor and still hooked together, I can measure stuff easily. here is the distance from the bellhousing face to the shifter on the stock trans and on my solstice trans

the solstice trans is about 4" shorter, which seems about right to me, so long as I can push the JZ back a little bit and get it up against the firewall. cool.

Your garage is hilariously awesome. Random racing buckets sitting around on top of other chairs, tires of different brands and sizes piled up, the occasional control arm or strut assembly or brake rotor and caliper. I love that the coolant hoses were just hacked off. "Not worth saving, just cut it..."

and it turns out the solstice shifter is more or less the perfect length for this swap. fuck yeah.

now I just need to hack out the stock trans mount brackets to make room for a manly transmission in the little bitch subaru tunnel

PS - I am assuming it will look more like this soon
http://www.vorshlag.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8275

I am following that Vorshlag thread because there is a distinct possibility that will be the future of my BRZ.

Did you modify/cut the mainshalt on the transmission to mate it with the vvti 1jz, or it was a perfect fit?

@Fastbrew thanks SO much for posting that, I knew I had seen something similar but I couldn't find the thread again and forgot if it was on a BRZ or an E36 that they had to cut inside the tunnel because I read so many goddamn build threads it's hard to keep stuff straight sometimes
@Ginzhos the solstice trans is similar to the toyota R154, and the input shaft is pretty close to the same length even. the pilot and spline on the input shaft are different, so I do need to use a different clutch disc and pilot bearing. NBD.

lexus ls400 hub vs. BRZ upright

it's ridiculous how chintzy subaru parts look next to manly toyota stuff. hopefully soon I'll be able to make a drawing / get a program done to spot, drill, cham, and spot face four new SHCS clearance holes on the back of the upright to make these LS400 hubs work.
