I can't tell you one, but I have adopted a "default block" policy for such matters. Just because there's nothing I know of that someone could do with a VIN, doesn't meant there isn't something. Since I have absolutely nothing to gain at all, why bother posting it? We may as well be posting our inseam length as far as utility is concerned. Mine is 30".

Could be a potential danger. (not an expert) but that would be a reason for me not to publicize. But yes its true your vins number exposed regardless. Im not sure if the VIN number itself is dangerous, but just another point of reference for thieves or haters. |

An issue we've had with some of the Acuras is this:
If a theif has a friend at the dealer, all they need is the VIN and they can get a key made. It takes all of 5 minutes to rip the immobilizer out of the ECU, or if they plan ahead, bring their own. Then they just drive off like nothing happened. Some members have began to cover the VIN on the dash for this very reason. But ultimately, if someone wants your car bad enough, they will get it. Theres not much out there stopping a tow truck from picking up your car.

A person could randomly look up vin numbers in sequential order until they hit cars in their area as well.

True, but thieves are lazy just like everyone else. I'll let someone else be the low hanging fruit. |
