My driving sucks, but I managed to hit a 35-foot putt. That kind of annoyed everyone. Those years of mini-golf training have finally paid off.

The first time I played 9 holes with friends we were drinking and driving in the golf carts. Those things can take a beating, lol. There were no other people behind us cause we booked the last tee time of the day and we were screwing around. I think I got par on 2 holes too

If you're down to play sometime hmu. I honestly suck. I feel like I was better when I first started out cause since then I've made adjustments that have made me suck more.

@brz408; I'll play. Used to quite a bit back in the days before cars and kids. Alameda courses were my favs. Peninsula and bay courses were a challenge b/c you have to play the wind respectively. Mountain terrains in the SB were fun but nothing like Chabot and Tilden GC (Oakland and Berkeley). Just imagine a par 3 but only travel 20yrds straight up and down. You're driving off a ledge and the green is right below you - then hike 100yrds or so down the side of the mountain (hole #9 Chabot GC). LMK, I work in the SB Sun-Wed and Pin High and SCGC are easy to get to. Pin High's 3-hole is great for starters!

@MyRx Lake Chabot GC looks nice and not too difficult. I want to get good enough where no matter what course I go to I can approach it with confidence. I need to work on my short game (30-120 yards) and my driving. I tend to slice right most tee shots. Im still making adjustments and what not to my game. Another issue I think is that I need to get extended irons. At 6'1" most irons feel too short, could be my gut in the way though haha. I'm gonna PM you my contact info so we can schedule something. I live and work in the SB and schedule is M-F 6am-3pm.

I think I'm going to start a NC Golf thread if we get enough interest. Seriously I am a beginner, think of me like Billy Madison.

Cool. Now I need to go get a new set of clubs finally. The last time I went out I misplaced a few...

At 6'1", most clubs should be "normal". As a beginner, you need to adjust to the clubs because it's much easier than adjusting the clubs (customs) to you. Besides, a beginner will have 100+ swings before they find the one that works. Most people I knew/know at that height (and taller) have achieved low handicaps with standard clubs. Anything custom may actually hurt your starting game because a custom set is for someone who has typically developed their own swing plane and a swing speed.
Slice: google how to 'fix' it. Otherwise, you can try turning over/close your grip. Smooth and even rotation thru a swing plane is key.
Shortgame: dedicate a day(s) with just the short clubs. Leave the long irons at home, seriously. Having a driver and long irons is extremely hard to ignore especially when the guy next to you is hitting long bombs. Play a short 9-hole with just the short irons. Challenging yet very rewarding.
Confidence: practice!!! Play as many 9-holes as you can get. Don't even count your score to speed things up. If you feel you played a nice 9-hole, your score will reflect it as well. Counting the score or not.

Extremely off topic what the rest of the members are chatting about (even though this is an off topic lounge), but does anyone have a link, source, or hook it up to a cheap Motul Sale or promotion that's happening right now?

Nice!! Reflect what you did on those few holes, go back again and replay them. If permitted (no one behind you) replay the same hole. We've turned a 18-hole game into more because we replayed the same holes. Just make sure no one is behind you waiting OR don't let them see that you're replaying the hole haha
