It's your DI system. The ECU will switch from MI to DI if you let the engine idle for a few seconds. DI can control mixture well enough to lean it out during idle. Tap the throttle and it'll switch back to MI.

Haha, it does doesn't it? I think all these cars sound like that, the combination of the crickets and the DI clatter really bring out the jetson in these engines!
