Because its NOT needed.

This entire Ebola virus scare has started because of complacency. I never advocate complacency. BUT fear mongering is not helpful, its not educational.

Education. Ebola is not as easy to contract as you may think. Because of how relatively difficult it is to contract, the CDC was complacent in its duties.

They should have quaranteed many people. But they didn't.

Look, the liberal media broadcasted the name and location of the first and subsequent patients. People in DIRECT contact with the patients are and were allowed unrestricted activities (within reason).

I'm not saying Ebola isn't a serious virus. It obviously is. What I am saying is: All this fear mongering, about an epidemic, martial law ... ETC is not helpful.

And if such fears are not addressed, can lead to a severe panic and rioting.

Like stocking up on food/water, ammunition to protect the food/water you are stocking? or are you afraid of zombies?

Irrational fears and actions are a path down a slippery slope.
Look I agree with you on several points, but I never said anything about martial law. Because it's transferable only in the later stages it's manageable but only in small quantities within countries with proper infrastructure. The CDC has lots of man power right now, but imagine if 100-500 cases dot the United States in the coming months.

My original point was if projections are right and 1.4 million Africans get the disease by January, we could have a dangerous situation on our hands. At that point, the disease could be popping around the world at an alarming rate. '

Nothin'
So how long does the Ebola virus live outside the body in water?
According to the World Health Organization, Ebola in water only lives a matter of minutes because without its' host it tries to equalize its osmotic pressure and bursts, which kills the virus

China can't even subdue Hong Kong and Taiwan, you think they'd enter into open conflict with the US over Canada? Nope.

Face it, you'll be flying an American flag before too long. May as well come to the dark side already. We have cookies!

... That wasn't a flu shot. I've had them every year for sixteen years, sometimes twice a year if my records got screwed up. My arm has never gone numb.

You will feel like shit for a few days. That's expected. Headache, runny nose, watery eyes, body aches, etc... That is not the flu, that's just your body adjusting to the vaccine and producing antibodies.

I'll call your accidental and raise you an intentional:

WHAT IF: ISIS gets smart, sends 20 guys to go visit Liberia for some body fluid swapping and then hire some coyotes to smuggle them across the border from mexico to go vist a few of our most busy transportation hubs?

If you think the leaders of Al Qaeda or ISIS have not already thought of this then we have really stuck our heads in the sand.
We have proven we cant even protect against accidental infection, what about someone who conspires to do it intentionally?

I'm sure I'll get flamed for just mentioning it.....

Screw the transportation hubs. Just have them go live in the homeless communities in major cities. Once it's in there, it'll spread like wildfire and we won't be able to control it.

@ZionsWrath, what would you have done in her place? Not to put you on the spot or anything...
In admission it is the doctors role in determining etiology. I don't know about ER nurses but floor nurses don't ask about patients travel, maybe that should change. Most patients are not forth coming with personal information. Even patients with full blown AIDS don't say anything when someone goes to draw blood or do tests. In fact I only encountered 1 patient that ever disclosed his status whenever someone had to touch him.

As far as I have seen my hospital does not have an Ebola protocol. There are contact, airborne, droplet precaution protocols but from what I understand these are most likely not enough. I know the patient would be isolated and the CDC is contacted and sent blood specimens which take 6 hours to result.

That article about how the nurses said they were told to use medical tape to cover their necks is a fucking joke. If that was in a written policy at my job I'd laugh in their face. If we are at a point where they tell us to protect ourselves with duct tape, might as well go in with nothing and hold your breath.
