First stage symptoms could be anything though. Especially in the fall, if you have a fever, stuffy nose, and nausea, I'd think you had the flu. It would take a lot more than that to diagnose the first case of Ebola ever presented in this country. It's not something they had ever dealt with, so it wasn't even on their radar. If he had been more open about where he had just come from, I think a lot of this would have been prevented.

Man, now would definitely be the time to own a HAZMAT cleanup company. You'd be on everyone's speed dial.

I really hope no additional cases of infection arise from the nurses and hospital workers that tended to Duncan. I also hope none of them were stupid enough to go to the STATE FAIR which is currently ongoing in Dallas.

I would have hoped none of them were stupid enough to get on a plane with a fever while they were under observation for having direct contact with an Ebola patient, but oh well. That woman had a wedding she needed to plan, screw everyone else on the plane!

The key here is if he had admitted to the hospital staff that HE WAS IN LIBERIA RECENTLY, AND EXPOSED TO A WOMAN WHO EXHIBITED SYMPTOMS. Sorry for yelling. My point is his non-disclosure is contributory to the probability of his untimely death. He lied to enter the country, hence his non-disclosure to the hospital. He lied, and eventually he died possibly due to his own actions.

I think he told the admissions clerk that he had recently come from Liberia, but that was it. Not the nurses or doctors or whatever. So while the clerk was wrong in not passing that information on, Duncan should have been telling everyone he came in contact with, not just one minor admin.

I'm totally ignorant to what exactly?

You are in fact ignorant if you think my statements are false.

Its people like @stugray that are going to cause mass panic.

Is there a threat. Yes.
Is Ebola easy to contract? No. IF it were as easy as people like @stugray make it to be, then EVERYONE on the original plane would be dead or dying.

When you succumb to irrational fear, panic and chaos follows.

No, you got that wrong:
When you understand the significance of an event in advance, then you can prepare for it THEN watch as everyone else succumbs to irrational fear and chaos due to being unprepared.

HOW IS IT BAD that I told may family to resist casual contact with other humans, prepare for the closing of public schools, and stock up on consumables?

I suppose you are one of the types that would have stayed behind in Katrina with a gallon of water and told everyone to not worry?

I lived through the Boulder floods last year that BROUGHT SOCIETY TO A HALT for two days while the state was cut in half!
That was NOTHING compared to what we are is store for over the next 6 months.

And I DID buy a case of bleach - I guess I am just out of control!!!

Small pox is one of the most dangerous diseases on the face of the earth - it would wipe your American, FR-S driving ass out just as fast as any African.

Ebola is not a 3rd world disease. Go read something.

man, fear mongering is so rampant on all media platforms..it's disgusting. People are acting like Ebola is some new Virus that was just created in a lab last month and unleashed upon the world (cue conspiracy theorists/"truth"ers...go ahead, I won't bother responding to such nonsense). It was around before, we are here today. It will be around again now, we will be here tomorrow. it will come again in the future, we will still be here then. You people taking things to the extreme are more than likely the same people thinking that marijuana and garcinia kola are cures anyway, so go get some and hide in your underground bunkers with shotguns and moonshine for the rest of your days (preferably a bunker with walls that wont allow you to transmit more crap to social media).
