Thump, like a kick to the tire sort of sound. Every time I start up my car I hear a thump coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. When I turn on the ignition, I hear this thump coming from that side with a little startle. Car runs fine, no weird noises while cruising, no sign of idle dips so I figured it might be one of the components from the avo kit.

^^ this. It only happens at start up. I've asked multiple people who had the di seal faliure but I never get responses. I think they don't like to talk about it.

this doesn't sound like DI seals, you should be able to get a reproducible popping when revving the engine, you would notice it driving around.

its possible your exhaust is hitting against something that only occurs during cranking, maybe the over pipe?

I remember first experiencing this noise when I first started to feel my car shake due to bad motor mounts. I ended up having the mounts replaced with Perrin motor mounts which stopped the vibration I was feeling, so maybe you are right about that. I'll check it out, thanks for the response bro.

Also, if it were the di seals, would the popping affect the rpm gauge? Would it make it dip or shake sometimes?

The firecrack popping of DI Seals is noticeable after starting the car and accelerating it at idle.

I'd think it's the overpipe too.

What you guys are referring to is a muffler explosion or afterfire. A backfire is when it happens in the intake.

One is mostly harmless (if you still have cats it will cause issues) while the other can cause serious harm (and if it's happening on a fuel injected car, something is SERIOUSLY screwed).

David, does the di issue affect the rpm gauges? Does it make the rpm stutter or or shake each time it pops.

I don't know the answer, but my guess is no.

Yes, but unfortunately I'm not getting any answers to my questions about the issue. Actually, I don't even get responses half of the time

You never answered the simple question: Do you have a BOV venting to atmosphere?
