I'm sure people have their reasons. May like the smaller/lighter size of the Twins or their driving feel vs. the Vette. May want to try building up a Twin as a learning experience. May want rear seats. Might not have the upfront money to buy a Vette. Etc.

I also suspect it's significantly cheaper to mod the Twin than buy a new Z06, especially if you can do the labor yourself. If your only goal is straight-line speed, you can skimp on areas the new Z06 can't (interior, brakes, track durability, handling, reliability, etc.)

If you have the money and you want to, why wouldn't you? After a certain point, there's no need to keep "trading up"... So, why worry about resale if your goal is just to build something extremely exciting/competitive? And if you have the money to not have to even remotely care about resale value, you then have the added bonus of pride & satisfaction due to creating something unique & more than the sum of its parts.

Also, like others have mentioned, if you don't care about things like interior/luxury, etc., especially if you're just making a track car to compete, why waste money on a more expensive car that has those things factored into the retail price?

I think what we have run into is a slippery slope. If you want a track car to compete there are even still cheaper options.

Lol.. Sure it does.. A stock Z06 is built on a full frame and has the mechanical grip needed for the power it has. It also has a warranty and will out handle a twin at the limits all day long, without engine failure and with no mods.
Get real.. the twins are great handling cars and can be made to go quick.. But it's no match for a Z06.. Especially in terms of reliability.. Those LSx engines are bullet proof and have the components necessary to handle the power..
Think reliablity..
To finish first... First you must finish..
I love my FRS..!! It's actually more fun to drive in the real world than my Z06 was.. but when it comes to going fast reliably at the limits.. I'd take the Vette anyday..

And if you could make a twin faster than a Z06. It wouldn't be a twin anymore...
