Rear rotors are fine.

I definitely didn't see this at the track yesterday, so I either picked up some debris going through the various construction zones yesterday or something happened to the OEM pads when I faded them out that caused it to happen today once they were cool.

I'll post pictures tonight when I pop the pads off.

Any recommendations for good rotors locally?
Seems odd if your pad depth is still fine. Is it possible your OEM pads are down to the backing plates or close? Perhaps you ate through the rest of your pads yesterday...

I'm still on my original rotors after 56K and except for some heat checks, they are still pretty good.

I'll PM you re; the rotors.

The OEM pads had almost zero wear on them when they went back on last week.

The track pads I usually use were only worn down about 25% after 4 full days and two nights with 1morelap. Rotors had maybe 1/2mm of wear on them and were still perfectly smooth before yesterday.

I am puzzled.

OK, so I popped the wheels off when I got home.

Both front rotors are seriously scored.

When I took the pads off it was pretty clear that they had been glazed over and then it looks like they cracked (for lack of a better term) and the rough surface of the cracked area is what is caused the scoring on the rotors.

There was no evidence of anything getting in between the pads and the rotor.

For now I've just swapped the left and right pads to see if it will even out the score lines. I'll be getting rotors and pads from a forum sponsor shortly.

Moral of the story, once you start to get faster at the track the OEM pads are shit.

Pics of the rotor after hitting them with some brake cleaner.

Front and back pads. The clean pad next to them is one of my track pads. See how nice smooth the track pad is? Not so much for the OEM pads.

John, what type of track pads do you run?
If they are street/track (i.e. HP+), you could even run with them for a few days and it should clean up that rotor a bit better.

You could also run your OEM pads on a flat surface over some sandpaper, might clean them up in case some embedded particles are still there.

Very odd situation for sure, never ran into that issue but also ran OEM pads only for my first trackday. Otherwise, I only run track pads or hybrids.

If you're not in need of cross-drilled or slotted rotors, the price of OEM ones is actually pretty decent (if you buy from a Subaru dealer). I'll have to dig up my receipts, but I believe they were $99/ea from my local dealer.

Hey Andre.

The track pads are Winmax W4. According to the Winmax guide they are pure track pads, not hybrids which would be the W3, so I think I'm going to keep them off just in case they get messed up by the score lines in the rotors. They still have plenty of life left in them.

Before I put the OEM ones back on I cleaned them off and didn't feel any embedded particles so we'll see what happens.

I've started to look at replacement options.

Based on my research I won't need slotted or drilled. The OEM rotors are, as you say, pretty decent, and if the pads weren't shite I would have gotten another year out of them.

There's an event going on at Nextmod this Friday night 8pm-10pm.
You guys should meet there instead of at M&HC!

I'm headed to Toronto on Friday afternoon so I won't be able to join. Once again.
