You complained as if the classing cost you money. It didn't. He's not scoffing at your driving. He's scoffing at your whining.

The 370Z specs have more in common with the C4 Corvette that won BS than with any of the other cars in CS. Any minimally conscious car guy could've told you that. But hey, don't let logic or facts get in the way of your keyboard jockeying.
You think that looking at a few specs will tell you what class a car should be in? And that, in this case, they clearly back up your point? I think the SEB can safely ignore you.

Seems like there is a bunch of complaining about 'Twin drivers' causing the 370 to be moved. How many of you guys wrote letters to that effect? We're being dragged through the mud, and I doubt many of us even said anything. It's not like removing the 370 cleared the way for a podium sweep or anything anyway...

yup.

Whether fair or not, ft86 CS drivers are getting a bad perception. I know that many of you are pretty damn cool. There is logic to the 370 move, and there is logic to the 370 staying.

saying the car should go to ES?????

complaining about contingency?????

I'm glad you did a rookie national campaign. I'm glad you're improving. No one deserves contingency if they're a second off the pace. That's luck, not performance. Getting red@$$ about prizes if not doing the twins any favors. You're contributing to a negative perception of your enthusiast group.

You can choose to not care, that's your prerogative.

For what it's worth, I think I beat more of the 370's at nationals than I lost to, but I didn't write any letters. However, I can say I think it's quite clear the car is a BS car, not a CS car.

Also, a C5 won BS at nats, not a C4.

On local sites, the cars are fairly close....but the type of courses we've been seeing at the national level, it's pretty clear the 370Z is a BS car, not a CS car. NWOR has been making these ridiculous courses all year that have been even faster than something you'd see at nationals. There's a rookie who just bought the 370Z that beat Harvey straight up on a course like this. Then factoring in a Pro-Solo....I didn't even bother competing at a Pro Solo this year because I knew had no chance at those style of events. (although my local 370Z competition isn't that fast)

Also, I came from driving a purple Neon, I'm well over giving a tenth of a shit what people's 'perspective of twin owners' could be. Really don't give a rats ass, I might even PREFER that they hate us. Just get the classing right. But again, I didn't write any letters...I'm busy prepping for the SCCA Rallycross nationals which I'm leaving for in 2 hours.

I'd definitely would have written a letter

many letters..

but we're in Canada and don't have SCCA memberships, so all we can do is sit on the fence and watch the story unfold

The SAC and SEB has been watching the 370Z in CS the whole year because they were on the fence about it moving last year after it won CS. The reason it wasn't moved was because the LSD is kind of crappy and putting power down out of corners might have been a big issue, but it wasn't as big of an issue as people thought.

The 370Z drivers need to look at the SAC/SEB on this one, no letters were written because the move wasn't predicated by a letter. The C5 and 370Z moves are completely at the hands of the SAC/SEB.

I'm mostly indifferent and would be OK if it stayed but overall I do agree. Less so from a competition standpoint but mostly because they seem to be more similar to the BS cars than the CS cars.

Look at the rest of the primary CS cars and they're all could be considered pretty similar. The 370Z is an outlier in weight, power, size and tire. As someone else mentioned, they're closer to a C4/C5 Vette than they are a MX5/86/RX8. I know paper specs don't tell the whole story, but it is hard to overlook them. The results at National events sealed the deal.

With all of this said, it wasn't as dominate as some were lead to believe. They are very good cars, but they're very beatable on the right course with the right driver. But all things considered the 370Z would have been the go-to car in the class if it had stayed. I think moving them to BS was the right move to increase class diversity instead of making CS a spec 370Z class. Though in the grand scheme of things I don't think it changes much for us since the RX8 and MX5 are likely more competitive than an 86, but there is still time to prove otherwise.

With 10" wide rear wheels, I would hope they didn't have too many problems putting down power!

Just as a clarification the 370Z was moved under the 12 month rule but the C5 is out for member comment and won't move until 2016, if it moves.

If anyone missed it this goes over the logic of the moves:

In other news, here is a shameless plug in case anyone wants to build a CS car - now that I have my Mustang I'm selling my full prep kit. :-)

There was seemly a lot of letters written in requesting the 370z be moved from CS to BS. Just look back at the last 12 months of Fastracks. There has been at least 4 to 5 issues where the move wasn't recommended at the time, yet was mentioned. It looks like the SAC/SEB might have held on to those letters. Just because it wasn't put to member discussion doesn't mean there weren't letters written for the move.

I'm just going by what I've heard from SAC members. I don't think it would have mattered if there were no letters written.

I haven't seen the answer to my question elsewhere, so I will ask here. For Konis, I can get inserts or full replacements for the front; is there any reason to go with one over the other? Any Street class legality issues with the full replacements? Thanks!

You shouldn't have any issues with either with regards to legality. Koni initially only released the inserts and just recently released the full strut replacements. The full replacements may costs a bit more, but are less work for install and you do not have to destroy a set of stock fronts.

No legality issues as mentioned. Other side benefit, though of getting the full struts: If you keep the factory struts around, you'll have something cheap and easy (the un-mangled factory struts in the original housing) to toss on the car if/when you send the Konis out for rebuild/conversion, etc.
