Is it your trunk making the rattles or the license plate? Most of the rattles come from the license plate. putting something behind the license plate like MLV will help with that.

I've thought about that. I don't want to remove the rear seats though; I'm always tossing stuff back there. I could concievably remove the back of the seat and do an infinite baffle arrangement, but that's way beyond my goals for audio in this car. If I still had my 4runner I'd be considering it..

The rear quarter panel is definitely an option, but it would require tearing out that corner of the car in order to lay the fiberglass and cutting the OEM panel to allow the sub. There is plenty of space behind the panel to do the job, though. I could probably do it ported if I wanted to, honestly.

I'm going to stick with the footwell, because it should only come out maybe 4 inches from the transmission tunnel, so it doesn't really limit foot space. And it can be removable without making any irrevocable changes to the car itself like cutting a panel. The amp is tiny enough to put behind the radio, and it pushes 200W @0.5 Ohms. The sub is a dual 1 Ohm sub, so it can run at 0.5. They're pretty much made for each other.

It's definitely the trunk. I've placed foam behind the license plate to eliminate noise. The sub is really loud... I was actually shocked how loud it was as the enclosure is sealed, but it causes some trunk rattle. Not a lot, but enough for me to want to sound deaden it a bit. Thanks for the heads up though. I wouldn't have known that initially, but a friend of mine had that issue with his 10 in shallow sub he has in the trunk.

amp
sub

I have a buddy with an S2K that had his sub in the footwell. I never knew it was there, so I know it won't take up much space. It should come out amazing.

The DSP from OEM audio plus?

sorry I'm trying to learn more about this because i don't know much about audio electronics but the shop i was going to take it to has great reviews, the best in orange county and when i asked about having someone change the EQ settings to make it the best they said they have a guy that sits in your car with a "scope" or some sort that maximizes the sound performance? wouldn't this be similar to the dsp? or would it really depend on the person doing it. Thanks

If they're installing some kind of DSP into the system and tuning it with a calibrated mic and frequency response software, then you'll be good. Most car audio places don't go that far, they just install speakers and amps and radios.

The OEM head unit doesn't have the flexibility to really balance the system.

Stereo imaging. That's where the difference is, and that's what you'll have to spend a lot to recreate with a random shop somewhere.
