For those who had Celica's before your Fr-s

So I just got T-boned by some whore and she killed my celi....I'm thinking of getting the fr-s because there is pretty much nothing else I like. For those who had Celica's prior to your Fr-s...how does it compare to the celi and what are your likes and dislikes..Does it eat a lot more gas? What are things I should know before deciding on this car? Anything else I should know? I'm super depressed and want some input to see if this car is right for me Thanks

I have not had a celica either, but I can give you a little info for comparison.

It takes premium gas. My driving (a lot of low speed stop and go mixed with highway speeding) gets about 25 mpg. I've gotten 33 mpg on road trips. It really depends on how you drive.

It has its quirks. The high pressure fuel pump chirps sometimes. That's endemic to all hpfp's, not just ours. A little 2 stroke oil fixes it. There isn't much sound deadening on the inside, so it can be pretty loud. My OEM hands-free is worthless because of the background noise.

This is the most fun car. I've driven a lot of decent cars, and this one takes the cake. It's not super refined and luxurious, and it's not super powerful, but when you're taking corners you don't even care about all that. It is genuinely fun to drive. I smile every time I see my car.

I can't say anything with regards to Celicas but I just got my FR-S a little over a week ago and so far I'm averaging 32mpg while driving around 450 miles so far. So I can't imagine a Celica getting much better than that.

celice gt

Had one in the mid 2000's. This car is much more engaging. The issue with the FRS/BRZ is that the mod bug will be sure to hit you. Especially with all the enablers on this forum LOL. Didn't have that with the Celica GT. I'd say come join us.

I was the original owner of a Celica 2004 GTS with full OEM aero kit. Traded her for a Monogram FR-S. I wouldn't have given her up for a base FR-S but the Monogram closed the deal. I stalked my Celica for two months till the dealer finally sold her. It was hard to leave her but I have not regrets. The community of FR-S and BRZ owners has been the best and the aftermarket parts for the FR-S is insane! Lots of fun!

My wife had a Celica. It was nice for a FWD machine. Apples and oranges. Test-drive a twin and make sure it includes a second gear pull to redline.

I know someone selling a '90 celica GTS for not a lot of money, if you're interested. They're in Utah though.

@Obja, lol!

I've owned every gen of Celica. IMO the one closest to an FR-S was an '85 GTS coupe since it had the same f/r drivetrain layout and balance. By any other objective or subjective measure an FR-S is superior by a mile. 93 octane recommended but others here run fine on 91. Very efficient car for 200hp on tap. My DD through twisty mountain two-lanes averages 25 mpg, better than any Celica I've owned.

Look around for a leftover '13 10 Series or '14 Monogram for the LED DRL headlights and creature comforts.

Good luck, sorry about your wreck and hope you're OK.

The Celica is nothing like the FR-S other than the fact the GTS Celica runs on the same gas...

FR-S makes the Celica look like a Prius.
