Someone I know has got the 1.1 here in the UK, initial thought are that it's good and having spent a day on Millbrook Proving Grounds with said car it sounds good too.

Just spoke to a guy today who has the 1.3 kit installed. Sent me a dyno as well. This is on an auto FRS.

Wow for over 5 grand he gained 25hp!!! $208 per whp, that has to be the worst HP/$ yet for these cars. I'm sorry but you're paying for the name and not much else.
Oh wait the pretty Cosworth plaque makes up for it right? At least you'll be exclusive lol

I love cosworth i think most people do but i agree with the masses here. You are paying out the ass for the cosworth name. For the price i would never even consider them.

Yes, not too impressive if it's the full 1.3 kit. For those of you that seem to know, what would you expect that gear to give as far as WHP? Don't take cost into it at all, just part for part on the 1.3 kit.

..doesn't anyone else think the base run of 136 hp is low .
The usual dynojet results for a stock 86 run around 150-160 hp at the rear wheels. I would think adding the 29 hp gain of the kit to the average 160hp would be more like the gains you could expect with a full exhaust and a tune. In other words 189 horse power. Cosworth claims 230 at the crank for the 1.3 I believe...so 230 minus the parasitic losses ( alternator, starter, water pump,A/C compressor, all idler and tensioner pulleys, etc) would be around 190-200 hp at the crank. I would be interested to see this same car on another dyno.. |

It's about an 18% power boost. It would take a 155whp car to 183whp. Less money can yield a hell of a lot more.

Doesn't matter. What matters is using a consistent baseline for reference to compare results and determine a delta. A base dyno run could read 80hp for all I care as long as it's consistent and shows repeatable improvements or losses that make sense.

Why are you guys shocked at the dyno results? It's >18% which is more than what Cosworth advertises on page 1 of this thread for 1.3. What's the surprise exactly?

It's probably worth noting that the badge you get isn't just a sticker, it's made by a local jewellers. Wow indeed right?
From the presentation they made at their HQ, my analysis is that they allocated way too much development time for the exhaust system and mapping, and with that, too much money spent. Why couldn't they just realise that everyone else uses a 2.5" exhaust for an N/A application for a reason? Why did they have to find out for themselves. |
