I started with a drop-in filter, then shortly after I chopped my snorkel, and then about 2 months later I installed the Supertek intake tube (pretty much the same thing).

The high-flow drop-in filter definitely made throttle response better and overall the car felt smoother during acceleration, especially starting in low rpms. The chopped snorkel barely made a difference.

The intake tube itself didn't seem to make much of a difference either after the first two modifications, but from what I observed, my idle rpm is lower (close to 500rpms). I was not used to this because my idle used to hover around 800 and if it dropped to 500 I could feel it struggle. I don't particularly like the "raw" intake sound from the sound-tube. The sound-tube delete is much better than just plugging the hole, and the engine bay looks much cleaner.

I still haven't figured out the whole "it may not make any more power but it improved throttle response" thing, as this violates the laws of physics, but I guess some people thing these cars are supernatural..,.

Hey man if I spent 120 on a plastic tube I'd want it to do something too lol. Telling yourself there are gains helps justify the investment.

You said more noticeable and nearly unbearable to some. Makes absolutely no sense given that removing the tube makes the interior of the car quieter. I haven't seen any complaints from people who removed the tube.

I also went with the Supertek intake tube. It's available on Amazon with prime shipping :-)

Cleans up the engine bay nicely, and I love the black finish.

Yeah I'm a fan of the Supertek hard pipe, especially since it's available for $80 through Amazon Prime with free shipping. I had the Perrin one before that, no issues with it just decided to go with a different color with the Supertek.

I also mainly got it so I could properly delete the sound tube.

I have the 3 inch Perrin intake with the required tune and the difference is notable.

Which one would you recommend?

So I'm new here, but figured I'd ask anyway. I was planning on getting Perrin intake tube and already bought a K&N air filter. When I install them, do I need to do any sort of tune? If so, any recommendations? Kinda new to this, so I'm all ears! Thanks!

You don't need a tune for simple stuff like a drop-in filter and this intake tube.

I actually just finished my review of the Perrin inlet tube, which you can read here: http://bit.ly/1uwunPF

TL;DR: Get the tube because you like how it looks or want to delete the sound tube. Don't get it expecting a noticeable jump in horsepower because the gains are so miniscule, you won't notice.

Depends on the filter. Look what happens to the afr with the K&N filter.

Hate to say but, I have no idea what this is telling me. (About the AFR that is)

Nvm, I just read through their thread where you pulled this pic from. They state that we shouldn't be worried about it really but I wonder if all panel filters do this. Being they only tested k&n from what I seen. If there is a chart showing me another filter that doesn't change AFR as much I'd use it. The only real reason I went k&n over any other one is cleanability and being more familiar with it personally over say the apexi, Perrin or cosworth. I almost went Perrin since its also cleanable but seen more people stating that they use K&n in their twin swayed me. You know of a filter that doesn't effect AFR as much? What do you use,if any? Dammit! You've made me curious! Lol
