Car started dying as soon as I got out of my neighborhood. TC/VSC kicked back in, slip light turned out, CEL, limp mode. Felt like the thing barely had half the usual power. Transmission refused to downshift into anything above 4k. When it did downshift it rode the torque converter instead of rev matching.

Got to wait around for three hours. I am thinking of just moving in to the dealership at this rate.

"The ECM needs to be replaced" is what the service manager said. Of all the related problems I am suspecting the camshaft sensor issue. Not sure why a reflash won't do but whatever. Keeping in mind the engine was recently pulled for camshaft cover leaking.

Car is out of primary warranty by exactly one day as of today. If this is the service I have been getting in warranty, I can only imagine the quality work I'll be recieving when they know I have to pay for it.

Anyway I got this really sweet ass Camry in my driveway. Woohoo.

Anyone know how much I can get for a 13' AT with ~18000 miles?
About 21 or 22 thousand maybe? I'm sorry about the issues that's why I take it to a personal mechanic if I ever have any issues

Yeah, I feel ya. As long as they're going to pick up the tab under warranty I'll keep coming back though I guess. Moderate jobs my dad and I historically just take care of on our older cars. Granted it would be nice to have a garage that isn't already full of cars. If one of these days I get a house with a big garage and a lift I'll be happy.

I am really not too keen about what I see looking into other people that have had this issue. A high percentage have reoccurring problems. 10% of people who get this issue have at least one of the three happen: Replacement of ECU 3+ times, Catastrophic engine failure, Total vehicle replacement.

Seeing as it is 2 years and 2 days old I imagine it would have to be out of service for a while before they'd consider replacement. I will say that whereas int he past they were assholes about even considering giving me a courtesy car, this time they finally caved probably because they've realized how many times they've f'ed up combined with this latest failure on the car. (Which I am not convinced is unrelated to the recent cam plate service...)

Unfortunate thing is had I started getting this warranty work done earlier this year it would have qualified under lemon law (18 months) but fixing minor issues was the last thing on my mind as my mom was terminally ill the first half of this year.

Aside from these issues and the lack of power I do like the car. I don't know what I'd move on to, there's really not too many cars out there that I think I'd like. E46 M3's not withstanding. I'd consider a Miata but I'm paranoid when it comes to convertibles. I am sure I'd love the shit out of driving the thing, but I like having a roof over my head in case I get tangled up in an accident one of these days. Newer Mustangs look nice, I may test drive one but I doubt it will have the dynamics I want.

Got to drive the Tail of the Dragon. This guy on the goldwing was able to keep up with the FRS and a WRX. Until he nearly crashed. The drive was certainly a life experience.

I might buy this picture. There were others out there taking photos, though can't remember their names/sites.

Honestly, looking at other rwd cars really makes the frs/brz stand out.

Miatas are slower, s2k are expensive for high mileage, g35/7 are heavier and gas guzzlers (same for the mustangs).

When you put comfort, commute, power, and rwd, the twins are the only one that have an affordable price that provide everything.

I really don't want to go fwd

Other than the E46, only thing that has been standing out for me is the Cayman as some pretty nice examples of it and even the S model are now in FR-S pricing territory.

Ah and yes I got my car back yesterday with a new ECU. Of course before leaving I looked the car over. Yes, after the fifth attempt they finally secured the lower window trim to the door properly, for now anyway.

Unfortunately they put a nice 2 inch scratch in my goddamn clear coat just under the window trim.

I wanna go cheap and older. I want to save as much money as I can. Debating between a miata and an ap1 s2k.

I'd love to try the model s. The Cayman would be expensive to upkeep and maintain if used.. I'm really hoping Kia comes out with am affordable rwd car. There's been rumors but no dice so far. Kia is definitely turning around and I wouldn't mind getting one myself.

If you want to go cheap, Miata is the right answer. The S2k is more expensive all around, including insurance.

FDs are badass, but you'd be hard pressed to find one in good condition for a good price.

But, if its a real option, hell yes FD.

On the plus side, you'll get plenty of exercise when it breaks down.
