don't speed... problem solved.

for MOST people, speeding will get them to their destination like... a min sooner. Worth a ticket? nah.

Alternative... get a motorcycle. After I got mine, I no longer speed in my cars, whether it was a M3, Sti, BRZ, etc. No point. These cars will never do 0-60 in under 3sec. =P

Contest the ticket in court. Just say it was a common courtesy flash because you were being blinded and you don't know why the cop took umbrage, unless there's more to the story.

Flashing your brights was just recently determined to be freedom of speech for warning about cops in a court case, if you want to be really high speed you could cite that court decision in your defense.

My last RD could tell if the Radar had a "Radar Detector - detector" and would shut down in time to not be "detected".

So it was a "radar-detector-detector-detector".....

ANd I am positive that if anyone ever challenged the "radar detectors are illegal" laws, they would be declared unconstitutional.

Since they all typically have many other SAFETY related features. My last RD could tell you if you were approaching a railroad crossing or if an emergency vehicle was approaching.

Also, since when did it become illegal to own a device that alerts the user when they are being observed.
So are wiretap detection devices illegal too? How about RF bug detectors?
Is it illegal to sweep my car for any GPS tracking devices?

Oh, and since the NSA uses malware to snoop, maybe virus detection software should be illegal too?

You guys have speed cameras in US? It seems like the cops there are more lenient.
I got caught by speed cameras for driving 7.5 mph over the speed limit. Fuckin revenue raisers.

They've been adding a lot of speed cameras recently in Chicago. Mostly in school zones. I haven't seen one yet but I think they're all marked. I did recently get caught by a red light cam

Except that I wasn't speeding when the giant gaping anus Texas state trooper pulled me over and issued me a ticket. That miserable piece of shit just outright lied.

When I was looking into contesting it, I came across a number of stories of giant gaping anus Texas state troopers doing the exact same thing to other people and winning in court. Apparently the judiciary in Texas has ruled that a giant gaping anus Texas state trooper is an "expert" on judging speed with just his eyeballs, and therefore all that is required to uphold the ticket is for the gaping anus to testify in court that he judged your speed to be in excess of the limit. The judge will side with the anus.

To me, that's institutional corruption. The entire Texas legal system is a corrupt revenue generation machine.

We have speed cameras in New Orleans. They're set for 10 mph over the speed limit. They're all set up in school zones, but they're always active and adjust for the different speed limits when the school zones are in effect or not. Last year they also extended the school zone times until 4:45 to generate more revenue to waste on bullshit.

This thing looks kind of interesting, although I don't think I'll end up buying one because I just don't find myself speeding in school zones. It's just neat to think of the big "fuck you" it expresses to the city.

In Los Angeles County the city put cameras at every light. The citizens quickly revolted at the idea, by protesting they were not the one in the car, wearing horse masks, etc. This caused the cameras to quickly become unprofitable with all the court hearings with no cash flow (drivers won almost every time). So the county shut down the cameras. It was too expensive to take them down though.

Now they stand as relics, reminding us of darker times.

That no photo concept looks interesting but wonder if it really works. Here in Aus when you get sent notice of offense, you get to "nominate" other person if it is not you who is driving. If you don't do that, owner of vehicle will be automatically charged.

Oh it gets better in Australia. We have double demerit long weekends, which when combined with the new red light camera's, that track speed also, can loose you your licence in one hit.

Not worth having a fast car these days. Well not round here at least.

1. Request as many extensions as possible
2. Demand a jury trial (if allowed in TX?)
3. Request Change of Venue (if you live in a different county?)
4. Try to schedule court date near major holidays
5. File a request for discovery to get records to certify the trooper as an "expert" (likely that judge just believes him, and he's not really qualified as an actual "expert," so if you ask for proof/qualifications, nothing will come of it)

Not sure of these options will work for you in fighting a ticket, but good luck if you do try.

As I stated above, I live in a different state. Traveling to fight it would have cost significantly more than just paying it. And even if I had lived anywhere near where the sack of shit issued the ticket, I would have had to miss work to go to court, so it still would have cost more to fight it than to pay it.

And furthermore, I always see this list of things you're supposed to do to try to fight a ticket. And yet when I was doing my research, I also came across plenty of stories where people did some or all of that and still ended up getting railroaded in court. I have my doubts whether any of that is anything other than wishful thinking.

That's hilarious. New Orleans has red light cameras at certain intersections, but they malfunction all the time and flash when there's nobody even at the intersection. Quite a few people have gotten tickets for turning right on red after a complete stop, which is perfectly legal here.

State Troopers here are strictly for revenue generation. They rarely ever do anything else than pull people over for 1) speeding or 2) no front plate.

I've had friends have success with requesting venue changes a day or two before their hearing due to circumstances (e.g. medical, work).

Usually more negative stories online since people need an outlet to complain. People who succeed are less likely to say "it worked."

In the end, you're just increasing your chances that the trooper doesn't show, resulting in default judgement. I've won 2 traffic cases this way in the past. However, usually it's not worth my time, especially if I have the option of traffic school to prevent a point on my record.

Your case is different since you're in a different state, so it might just be better fro you to pay it. however, you shoudl check to see if you have an option for traffic school to prevent a point from going on your record. online traffic school is a joke.
