Even so, this is the only SC option in SA I would consider. Power is NOTHING without reliability and support.

Nothing much has changed modification wise but we did take her to our local track.

Every first Friday & Sunday of the month, Tarlton International Raceway, hosts an event called Street to Strip. (S2S for short) Remember...this is not a prepared track on this event.

This was my Dad's first time out to the track with his 86. He was definitely the better driver between us as I do not drive a manual car very often. (And now with the Supra sold...I only have my DSG GTi left)

Nonetheless...we went out to get some times with our RGM 86. I was hoping for low 14's but we could only manage high 14's and low 15's. Sometimes even 16's+ with a bad launch. We had about plus/minus 8 runs in total. Trying various techniques to get off the line better....but with the light weight rear end of the 86....we really struggled a lot to get of the line properly.
(Keep in mind this was with 255/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres at the back and 225/40/18 in the front)

The best time we managed (my Father) was 14.95 @ 156km/h.

The car definitely needs more power! But I guess it wasn't designed for straight line speed....

There's nothing wrong with the RGM conversion, the problem is most likely poor fuel.
What fuel were you using?

well its definitely reliable there is currently a toyota 86 at gerotech doing a 200 000km test. spoke to Rob couple weeks ago and apparently toyota sa wants to launch a limited edition supercharger version available from the dealers.

not sure if they are going to proceed if toyota international launch the 2.5 turbo awd.

LOL
Everyone thought the same thing before the car was launched.
I cant understand how these rumours still have traction.
Their wont be AWD and there wont be a Turbo. Tada San said so

Hey Die$el! Nice hearing from you bud.
yes we did try revving-launch it..and trying from lower revs...but the main problem is traction.
Also remember is an centrifugal supercharger. it doesn't have so much torque like for example a Sprintex supercharger. (like the "normal supercharger everyone thinks about...put your foot down in second/third gear and hear squealing tyres"...no...you have to really rev it. The centrifugal supercharger keeps the characteristics of a N/A motor)
It basically works like a turbo..the more you rev it....the more power it makes...(it also looks like a turbo for that matter)

Here is a dyno graph which you can see the difference between the two superchargers clearly.

True that bud. But there is many other supercharger and turbo conversion coming into play now which shows very good power gains and reliability. The FA20 motor + gearbox is strong.

But again...we were looking for a solution at that time and RGM had the solution.

agreed man. but running 11's would be awesome man....one needs to turn up the power a lot. (which affects reliability like SAV mentioned in his above post) I wonder how these guys put the power down though?

FYI: RGM's 86 managed a best of 14.408 @ 159.1km/h at Speed Freaks Vanderbijlpark air strip.
http://www.tolken.co.za/twincamforum...9215&start=135

Yes yes..its a different day, different track..but I do not think we did too bad (14.95 @ 156km/h @ tarlton)

I was really hoping we could break into 13's..but ya.

That's probably the cause of your poor performance at the drags.

My car runs 10-15% down on power without octane boosting. It obviously pulls timing. I don't use octane booster all the time, just when I do track days, and then the power difference is very noticable.

Lately, I've been getting satisfactory results on the highveld from Sasol 95 + Liqui Moly Octane Booster at approx 1 tin per 25 litres, and I start 2 tankfuls before the event to give the ECU time to adjust. At my home altitude (750m) I find Engen 95 the best and most consistent without octane boosting, but YMMV.

Latest Liqui Moly price is about R78/tin (bought today for Sunday's track session).

PS: Just watched the video. I don't know much about drag racing, but something's wrong with either your tyres, warming them up, or your technique because launching's not coming together...

With the uniQ chip i do not think octane booster would yield 10-15% performance? As you need to tune for it? (Or be able to switch maps, like we do with the GTi's)

What happens when you go down to the coast with uniQ? Surely fueling / boost and timing needs to be adjusted?

Whats wrong with the launches? Remember its on street tyres. So you wouldn't benefit anything by doing burn outs.

Rommies be happy with decent safe power. I have not heard of one unhappy RGM customer nor heard of a RGM installation failure.
I personally have had 10 months of problems with my installation, to the point where I'm ready to back NA.
