I do agree with your statement though and I'm sure that is the case, but the same is true about all cars. The point I should've been clearer about was that I meant that since the advent of forums, there has been quite the "scare" about many problems on many different cars. People are much more likely to complain when something goes wrong, than to post when everything is good. While it is great to know about potential problems, some problems are portrayed as if every car will have them, while reality may be that only 1% of the cars sold will have a certain problem. Some people also withhold info, as in, they did something really dumb to the car (whether they know it is dumb or not), that causes the failure. Forums consistently skew failure rate data and they can be the worst source of legitimate information unless you're a really good BS filter and/or researcher. I saw a poll on this forum that asked about a certain failure, but provided no voting option for "No problem reported" or something like that. So, while they may get a number for how many have had that particular problem, they won't get an overall percentage to accurately portray what the real risk is.

Anyway... that's why I choose to trust you for my track related info Mike.

Ya, for sure... around $35k gets you a very great feeling, handling, 280bhp sportscar (a JR 86).

A lot more bhp than the base 1gen(245bhp) and 1.5gen(265bhp) Caymans, and the base 2014 2gen(275bhp) too

Recently there has been a crackdown on modified cars (and even stock cars) in the San Diego and Orange County regions. The police is power tripping so be careful out there and make sure those CARB stickers are very visible.

86 NA with a good header & tune:
2775lbs / 230bhp = 12.1

86 with a JRSC CARB:
2775lbs / 280bhp = 9.9

86 with a JRSC and tuned/header’d to at least 295bhp:
2775lbs / 295bhp = 9.4



Cayman base:
gen1
2950lbs / 245bhp = 12.0
gen1.5
2950lbs / 265bhp = 11.1
gen2
3100lbs / 275bhp = 11.27

Cayman S:
gen2 2014
3100 / 325bhp = 9.5


Handling aside, and just talking about power to weight ratios...looks like an NA 86 could easily compete with a base Cayman, and a JRSC could easily compete with the latest and greatest 2014 Cayman S

But of course, there will be advantages of the NA flat 6 and big differences in powerband and delivery.

That's just it, powerband. I posted recently here about the fact that my old stock E36 m3, at about 195whp stock on a dynojet, a little under 3200 lbs, would run the quarter mile in the low 14's all day. A slightly modified na frs at 190whp and about 400 lbs lighter should easily walk away from an e36 me, but reality shows the opposite. This will be even more the case with centrifugal superchargers - they produce big peak numbers but area under the curve, even at the track in the upper rpm ranges, will very likely be less than something like a 280whp flat six.

According to CSG's website the JRSC kit has a 100lb ship weight. That'll change these numbers a bit.
