Same as any serpentine belt. Given that it's not happened to anyone yet, it's a moot point.

Unlike Vortech and their idler pulleys and wearing on the piping, or KW with their hard to find toothed belt that has snapped...

The JR kit is the only one where nobody has broken a belt. To me that means nothing other than: it hasn't happened YET or we haven't heard about it.

It could possibly mean that jackson racing is the only shop capable of putting together a proper supercharger kit, but you'd have to be high as a kite (or work for CSG) to believe that shit.

And when it does, I can walk into a local O'Reilly autoparts and buy a replacement belt.

Your point?

Simply trying to illustrate that a broken belt isn't much of a statement about the kit. Belts are going to break. You can tow your shit home and change the belt or walk to O'reilly and then change the belt on the side of the road, the KW owner can keep a spare in the garage and swap it after driving the car home.

Not to mention the datapoint of plenty other SC owners out there who have never snapped belts. I'm willing to bet that the reports of snapped belts on this forum make up a vocal minority of SC owners.

Does the JR kit use a standard and easily found belt (maybe from another application, car or easily available size) available at any auto store? If yes, then it doesn't matter since it's easily available.

Belts breaking is inevitable for any oem car or aftermarket kit. It's a wear and tear problem. If it gets old, obviously, you should replace it. Broken belts shouldn't be due to a supercharger kit's quality (unless something is really out of whack and really misaligned or too tight).

As for that special toothed KW belt...that is a disadvantage if it's a special order item and not found at a regular auto store.

It's always best if a company can utilize oem parts on wear and tear or damage prone parts for easy repair.

Both Rotrex kits require removal of the Supercharger to replace the belt.

It's just 3 (2x 12mm and 1x 14mm) bolts for the Jackson Racing kit, plus the OEM Tensioner (14mm).

I'm unsure with the Kraftwerks kit, as I've not actually read the manual... does anyone happen to have a link to an electronic copy?

Vortech belt replacement also requires removal of the supercharger unit. You can do it be loosening the supercharger and sliding it out of the way if you want, but its just quicker to remove the unit (handful of 14mm bolts).

My belt broke once when I was using the wrong size belt (too tight), but has been fine with a gatorback belt for thousands of miles with no sign of wear. Even the gates belt that you get with the kit left a lot of rubber dust on the charge pipes (rubber dust = wear), but the gatorback has been the best belt I've had on so far.

You really don't want to have to plan for a belt breakage, but its a good idea to keep a spare belt and the required tools in the trunk.

It would also be a good idea to get a laser alignment tool (~$100) made for pulley alignment, as I still believe that to be the number one cause of belt failures especially if it is constantly a single rib that gets shredded. Would not be surprised to see the belt walking off a smooth idler pulley a rib or so when under stress if there is any wobble/play in an idler pulley.

Since this is my thread (hehe), we haven't addressed my other question yet:

"Cayman killer?"

Is a JRSC'ed 86 (let's say just modestly/lightly modified with good coilovers, wheels & sticky tires and AP Sprint kit, just to make it decent on the track) as good as a stock Cayman S or base 996 around the track, if not maybe even better?

Here's our little fun video using a client's FRS that had the same exact setup as our CSG BRZ before the FI days. Stock power, TEIN SRCs, 225 RS3s on 17x9 TC105Ns, and Essex AP Sprint kit, and Project Mu 999 F/R brake pads. Power isn't everything. Proper setup and proper driving gets you there...unless you're driving on ACS which is a pure power track...

Yes, obviously. Many more things come into the equation, and power is only just a small part of the whole picture.

But we're specifically discussing the JRSC and its' benefit..and we're in the FI forums too

The JRSC kit screws with people on track. A lot of WTF coming from the big power cars. That's all I have to say for now.
