Jeep Cherokee here. A mid-sized truck or SUV is the perfect complement to a BRZ. That's especially true down here in Louisiana, with our ridiculous roads.

The thing I wonder about is how much of a financial hit the OP gave up to depreciation after four months of ownership. It seems like the car was bought on a whim that may have turned out to be a rather expensive mistake. You don't really feel it if you just roll it into the financing of the next car, but I can't help but cringe at vanishing cash.

I traded in my 35K mile '09 Infiniti G-37 auto stick coupe for a '14 Limited auto.

The top 8 things I think that I lost were:

1. Infiniti's service department was the best...awesome always. I miss this.
2. Infiniti's top speed (Read: speeding tickets!)
3. Infiniti's head jerking torque (cool when you wanted it, annoying when you didn't)
4. Infiniti's high end car snobbery (Pretending you're cool because of the badge on your car)
5. Infiniti's slightly quieter ride since it wasn't an "S" model.
6. Infiniti's paint was thicker and tougher.
7. Infiniti had a moon roof. (Which I rarely if ever used!)
8. Infiniti would have been paid off in 2 years....Subaru has 6 years left.
9. Infiniti had a fantastic sounding exhaust stock. Subie's sounds horrible to me!

In return I get:

1. A unique and rare car that doesn't look like everyone elses.
2. A brand new car no one has driven/wrecked/abused etc before. (a first for me)
3. Ten miles per gallon better AVERAGE gas mileage. ($100 a month savings)
4. Sportier/sexier ...just better looking car. (in my opinion. and some others)
5. $100 savings A MONTH on car insurance!
6. MUCH better cornering ability.
7. More bells and whistles. (Blutoothe, trans modes, stability modes. etc)
8. Much more comfortable seats.

There is not a doubt in my mind that I did the right thing, got a good deal and will enjoy this car for years to come. (Even compared to a luxury sports car)
Just my opinions tho...

Pax

Congratz to the OP for recognizing that he got the wrong car (for him) and moving on. There are too many here that bought a twin and then spend countless dollars trying to make it into something it is not. Exmple:

Want a cheap drag racer? Buy a Mustang!
Want a Porsche killer? Buy a C7!
Want a great track car? Buy an Elise or 05 Z06!
Want a Reliable and comfortable family car? Buy a Camry!

Want a relatively inexpensive, fun to drive sports car that is a blast on twisty roads but can still be used for trips for two, driving to work, getting groceries, track days, autox and daily driving that looks great and will get you gobs of complements everytime you drive it? Get a FR-S/BRZ!

I love how everything you didn't like is still better than my present car and I feel as though the BRZ is just that tiny bit better that will make me happy as a daily

Can't wait

Hope you enjoy the new car, my girlfriend found a Mercedes C300Sport for a steal of a price and absolutely loves it. 20K miles on it (50K on ODO) and no problems so far. She also has a comprehensive warranty for another 25K miles.

There's a reason why an $80,000 Mercedes sells for only $25,000 after a few years and a $50,000 Lexus sells for the same $25,000 after a few years. Lexus is probably the most solid built car there is. Maybe except for the older IS250 with the DI only 4gr and its carbon build up issues, Lexus has got to be the best Luxury brand there is. My next car is going to be Lexus for sure. My wife has the hybrid HS250h and I'm pretty jealous. That car is incredible in terms of creature comforts and backed by Lexus reliability.
Well said! I laugh when I see these thugs or wannabe ballers drive around in older model "big body" BMWs, Jags, and Benz. If they only knew what maintenance cost is waiting for them to assume.

OP - did you plug the sound hole in the cabin? Made a huge difference to me! Not noisy on highway at all. (I get on the highway for a bit by the mid point of the video - the only noise you hear is the loud ass motorcycle in front of me, but even that isn't very loud in the cabin.)

Oh - the "crashing" noise you hear around 1:30 mark is the container of tic-tac mints in my center console. It fell over, and you hear the mints slide around from time to time. Yeah, tiny mints - that's the only real "noise" in the video.

Rpm beep set to 4500 rpm, in case anyone is wondering.

The only thing that bothers me about this car is the Cricket noises. Hopefully a WRX HPFP fixes it. Anyways, I have a WRX to back up my BRZ once I get it. The WRX is so much more practical then a BRZ. I highly don't recommend a BRZ unless your single or have other vehicles you can drive. Just my 2 cents.

Sad that you couldn't use the BRZ more--best of luck with the new transport!

Every negative point made by the OP is correct. The car is noisy, the NAV screen is awkward, the back seat is totally impractical for kids or just about anything else (my kids are grown, thank goodness). But I already knew all that before I bought it. I got the BRZ because it's so fun to drive, and I don't have any regrets. If I were in the OP's shoes (especially with kids), it would not be the car for me.

And maybe I'm lucky, but after two months, I still haven't heard any crickets.....

I actually agree with OP. The car is too loud while cruising and the stereo/speakers are crap. The FR-S/BRZ is not the car I would drive daily if I had other options. I still love it for what it is, but a great commuter car it is not.

I think it depends on length of commute. I enjoy daily driving my FR-S more than my MK6 GTI, but my daily commute is typically only 35-50 minutes each way. If I had to commute longer than 1 hour, I'd probably prefer the GTI.

You would have spent less money and have a less compromised vehicle than the 2JZ Twin.
