As others have said, it depends entirely on what you want the car for. I came from a line of VAG products and would go back in a heartbeat if my needs changed (read: kiddos). Is the MK7 GTI anywhere close to the 86 in driver feel and feedback? Of course not, although I'm told the performance package gets it as close as a GTI (or most hot hatches) has ever been. It's still a jack of all trades, though.

Honestly, I -like- my BRZ. It does everything it was intended to do and does it beautifully. But it's a pain in the ass when I need to carry one person, or load the 60lb dogs in to go somewhere. It's a hoot on twisty roads and the auto-x course, but kind of boring on the grid system of roads we have here. The GTI may not be the fastest, or the sharpest handling, but if it does 85-90% of what the BRZ can do, and haul people/dogs/cargo/ass on the interstate, it's perfect. If I needed a more well-rounded car, the GTI (or Golf R) would be on a very short list of replacements for the BRZ.
I assumed C Series Merc

Yeah but according to calmtigers a 3 series and c-class are better cars because they have more luxury.

Sounds about right. That and a sweet badge that makes your dingdong immediately twice as big.

Lol u mad bros?

Lets be honest, spending the same amount for a VW when you could get a Mercedes or BMW? The quality in the product is on different levels completely, yea not as much power sure you could say it has expensive maintenance but its still a much better car in many different criteria not just luxury.

While you might think its all about the badge but there is a reason the badge is worth more, get off the keyboard and go test drive some cars folks

I worked for the largest parts supplier in the world, so I know a bit about cars thanks. The fact that you just throw out brand names and say that the quality is on a different level just makes you look stupid.

So no I'm not mad bro...

Lol, I started with very specific cars that are on a higher level of quality than the car stated in the thread. Think you're mistaking that I am saying brand name causes quality, no just saying in this case they're correlated.

also

No...again, you said the "3 and C" were much, much better cars. You didn't mention what trim level of those cars, and made no mention of quality (you said they were more luxurious). Try again.

The difference in quality between a loaded VW and a base model CLA or 2/4-series (which is what would be required to make the prices equivalent) is far, far smaller than you think.

The MKVII GTI's interior is basically Audi-levels of refinement. Was very impressed when I sat in one a few weeks ago -- much better than my MKV GTI.

Its a nice place to be.

This. But its still FWD. I can imagine severe traction and maybe torque steer problems. Nevertheless

I suspect a lot of failed rotaries are coming from people used to low maintenance engines where you can go 3-7K miles without adding a drop of oil.
