We don't.

I continue to be convinced it's the additive packages. Top tier gas is required to have 10% ethanol. Top tier gas also usually has some kind of additive package with detergents and drying agents to keep your injectors clean and keep the ethanol from absorbing water. When you buy ethanol-free gas, you're buying lower tier gas, which may not have the same fancy additives. I think it's the lack of those additives and NOT the lack of ethanol that gets rid of the crickets.

That would make sense with the E85 results as well. That fuel wouldn't have the same additive package as a mostly gasoline fuel. There's something in the additive packages in the top tier gas that isn't found in either the E85 or the ethanol-free fuel, and THAT is what is causing our crickets.

Find yourself a Plymouth Cricket and swap.

Thanks for the info. I didn't consider the additives. The reading I have done previously in this thread had me thinking it was ethanol. There is a lot of back and forth throughout this thread, I stopped actively reading through every page quite a bit ago.

Check for crickets after various different operating conditions and still insect free (although my wife thinks I have lost my mind standing at the front of the car listening all the time).
Put a couple tanks of something else in. You'll know, and so will she.

Crickets after 500 miles. As long as its not a detrimental issue I couldn't be bothered.

At 11k now and my crickets disappeared... Wonder if it's because it's been cooler outside the past week? One thing we do know, temperature definitely does make a difference, so that's probably it

Not a bad guess...but you aren't considering the fact that there are big differences between E0, E10 and E85 as far as the fluid dynamics are concerned. Think cavitation point, vapor pressure, etc. Add into the fact that those same dynamics change depending on engine and ambient temperature, and I would guess that's going to have a bigger effect than any minuscule additive package (which, if I recall, is less than 1% of the gas you put in your tank, and is mostly "snake oil") will have.

I hit that mileage in the dead of summer and my crickets were gone, this included a Saturday afternoon drive in 115 degree heat.

Optimistically you're probably out of the patch.

I'll be damned. I've still been filling up with E0 occasionally but now I'm thinking that may only prolong the issue.

I've only had access to E10 and I've never gone out of my way to get 'nicer' fuel at say Shell or 76 or whatever, just grab what's cheap or convenient. Haven't heard a peep in over a year and 20k miles.

@litemup. I filled with E0 from the Country Store - so far crickets are gone.

I went back for the E0 a couple weeks ago for my first track day. Strictly a vanity move. It was a pleasant tank of gas.
@HunterGreene and I discussed the idea of pump break-in versus break-down a while back. I'm looking forward to confirming your results.

Ha! I just admitted my moment of weakness. I am so torn because their gas is the bomb!
