Hey guys!

I just bought a 2015 Series Blue BRZ

I'm loving it so far, I got a few questions though

1. Since I live in Chicago the snow here is pretty bad, is there anything I can do to help to make the car better with the snow? Like would snow tires be worth it? If so which ones specifically?

2. Does the car come with full synthetic oil or just synthetic? From the manual and dealership it says synthetic, don't know if that means full or maybe a mix?

3. What's a rough mileage for the "break-in" period? I haven't red lined it yet but I did like 6000 RPMs. Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance,

I'll probably have more questions in the future. Nice to be part of the Subaru family!

1) Snow tires or chains would be good. No idea what kind, I don't deal with snow in this car.

2) It's full synthetic. 0W-20 is only available from any/all manufactures as full synthetic.

3) I think 1000 miles is good, but YMMV.

1. Yes snow tires would help. Which ones somebody else will have to answer I live in Houston so haven't had snow tires for many years

2. Synthetic oil not synthetic blend http://www.patriotsubaru.com/synthetic-oil.htm

3. Manual says under 4000 rpms until 1000 miles, but many different theories on this.

Patriot Subaru has some information I found interesting.

1) They specifically say "...require Subaru Synthetic Motor Oil (or its equivalent)." Not that I would ever worry about this, but it's nice to see them spell out that non-Subaru oil is okay.

2) It says "5W-30 can be used for non-turbo vehicles, with the exception of the 2011 Forester." Hadn't read much about oil on the forum, so this may be well known, but good to see them specify that 5W-30 can be used. I'd imagine a 0W-30 could also be used.

3) The table at the bottom specifically says the first oil change should be done at 3000, then 7500 miles, then 7500 miles after that. I know a lot of people like to do their first oil change early, but I don't think I've ever seen a dealer spell that out in their maintenance schedule.

Also one thing to note is that for the 2015 BRZ the standard maintenance interval is 6000 miles, not 7500. No idea why Subaru changed it, and I haven't seen anything saying they moved the 13s and 14s back to 6000 miles. I don't see any reason why a good synthetic couldn't use 7500 mile OCI, and if anyone knows why for 2015 they pushed it back to 6000 miles I'd love to know.

I saw that also so called my dealer and they said no 6000 miles for first oil change. But again many theories on this as well

Yeah it definitely wouldn't hurt anything, and I'm sure they'd do it if you wanted, but they'd either charge you or count it as your first free oil change as part of the 2 years/24k miles free maintenance. Personally I'll just wait until 6000 miles.

It's weird that service intervals are different depending on a country.

For example in Finland the service interval is 15000 km (approx. 9300 miles) or one year for 2015 models and we can have really harsh winters..

What dealership offered you the free maintenance for 2 years? I never heard of that for Subaru. Can anyone confirm?
