Do not use the clutch adjustment as a crutch for learning. In fact I do not recommend adjusting at all if you are still learning. You also pick up bad habits with a lower clutch engagement. People did the adjustment to make their cars feel like their old cars, but truth is, most modern MTs have a high engagement point. Drivers should adapt to the car, not the other way around.

It's like studying, but for your muscles and senses. Also more fun than school work.
This is also good. This is how I learned the basics of heel toe. I made loop of on/off ramps in my area and practiced.

The clutch and tranny will survive just fine. I taught 3 of my daughters and my wife to drive manual trannys and the vehicles survived just fine.

MT

Yes, I must agree.

I do love the hydraulic assist these days.
And I don't miss my 3300 lb pressure plate in my M-21 Muncie...
Of course my left leg is pretty weak now!

I know everyone learns differently, but after a week of struggling with first gear starts my dad was able to teach me clutch fineness in a little over an hour.

Essentially try this:
- find steep hill in the country side or a rarely used side road.
- Starting at the bottom from a complete stop; clutch in, move 5 feet, clutch out.
- If you can do three smooth starts in a row under 2k rpm then you can go home.

** Don't cheat and use your handbrake.
** It may be helpful to have someone very patient to coach you through this.
** find a hill with good sight lines to watch for traffic.

good luck
