LOL. Or whatever. Whatever applies. You both suck at reading comprehension.

Enjoy your 25mpg and added wear/tear on the engine.

Actually, pretty sure defensive driving courses will actually teach you not to swerve and punch the gas when you see something.
Let alone driving at 3900rpm on the highway and cutting into people's lanes when you think you see something at perhaps 60 years of age?

LOL. Where did I say that? You're one of those oblivious NDF's, correct?

You want to drive it like V8s in 6th? Be prepared for crappy mileage if you are doing it by running at 3900rpm on the highway.
Not rocket science, but I see how the 45 years of driving would make you think you need to take it to a dealer.

LOL, like a teener. Again.

I don't give a shit about mileage, either way just curious how far out of the norm my car might be. I get about 18 MPG with E85, and am aiming for 15. And you can't be serious re the wear/tear comment. Can you?

If you don't give a shit why did you start a thread about your poor fuel mileage? You even said you'd ask about it at your next service. And yes I'm serious, spinning all your engine components at a considerable higher RPM will result in quicker wear.

There is literally nothing good that comes from keeping it in fourth for anyone who is a half decent driver and looking ahead.

Again, don't give a shit about mileage. Just curious, gathering data to see if perhaps my car is an outlier. Nothing more, and I admitted it might be all on me.

Never claimed to be "half decent". I'm at least 3/4 decent. My car has a redline of just short of 8K RPM, much like yours. How does driving it at anything less than that (for example, on my favorite bit of back road where third gear, from about 3k to 6K, is all you need) going to damage my engine?

Are you as drunk as I am?

ETA: I knew what SIPDE was before you were sperm, dude.

I guess no one cruises in 6th on the highways, then change gear if needs be.
Pretty normal for 4 banger NA.
The AT is actually quicker with the shifts than the manual already but the problem still remains. Change your driving style to suit the car, rather than force the car to suit your "defensive" driving style on the road.

Don't care but take it to the dealer,
Driving at 3900rpm, swerving and punch it to cut in front of people on the street = driving like a **** to most others, playing the age card totally backfired.

No need to get defensive, just an opinion and some logical thinking but anyways, you know better.

btw, I am far from a teener, although name calling after being questioned seems like a pretty high school thing do for someone with 45 years of experience.

Sure, I suppose being told that doing 3900rpm on the highway and go to the dealer with low mileage concerns is dumb, somehow warrants high school retorts due to 45 years driving experience.

Good stuff old timer.

These cars are tuned for throttle response and power not for economy, the fuel economy you get is very dependant on driving style . on my trip to work city driving no highway I can get 6L/100 km (about 40mpg) driving like grandma and short shifting and driving in highest gear possiblle. Or if i drive agressivly i will get about 8.5L/100km (25 mpg)

Do the same in my corolla and it makes little difference as it got very slow/doughy throttle and much less power and its tuned for economy its a 2012 model. drive by wire throttle..

You can get almost the same economy out of a 86 as a corolla but you need to short shift it and use low rpm and very very gently throttle movements, sod all fun in that though
