Why would you want 340hp in that car? Just to eat up tires and clutches? A co-worker has a Mazdaspeed3 which already has to torque limit through the first TWO gears. That much power to the front wheels seems like a waste unless you just want to make big numbers on a dyno or spin your tires a lot.

No major issues with 30K + in already , but since my car is the DSG it is
quite boring to and from work.

I've driven a 270whp MKV, which was nuts. Just FYI, 340hp is bonkers crazy. To even put it down right you'll need a new diff.

FWIW, the Stage I APR flash to 250hp will probably keep you plenty happy. At GTI with 250whp is at least a manageable amount of crazy.

I test drove a GTI today and may very well be jumping ship on the BRZ . I need the dealer to come down some more on the price, but the GTI was a ton of fun and the interior was freaking amazing. It also seems like it's easy to wring some more performance out of the GTI.

The GTI is a good car (I've got one) but... I'd wait to test-drive a BRZ first.

Hah, if the VW dealership will come down on price like I want I'm afraid I'm just going to go ahead with the GTI. I'm a sucker for a nice interior, and the GTI interior poos all over the BRZ's (unforunately). I also know that it's easy to get more power from the GTI, but it may be difficult to get more out of the BRZ. The GTI won't be quite as much fun on the twistys, but I can always get a BRZ a few years down the road for a good price .

Agreed.

The Mazdaspeed3 has ~263hp and limits power to 230hp in first and limits power in second as well. A co-worker has one and it is crazy with torque steer. I hate to be dumping on people getting more power but 340hp is just overkill on a GTI. You'd be better off shooting for ~250hp and putting money into better tires/brakes/whatever for better performance. Otherwise you're just lifing your engine and drive train for some power you'll never use without losing traction. Or just get a WRX and boost the shit out of that. At least then you'll be able to use the power.

True true, I'm thinking about keeping the GTI as well. It's definitely a nice car, esp as a daily driver. Hope you get that price you're shooting for.

My girlfriend currently has a 2010 MK6 GTI w/ DSG and I autocrossed it the past couple weekends and actually took first in Stock class with it. Now granted I threw on a set of Dunlop Z1 Star Specs but the car was basically bone stock and hung with the best of them at the autox. It is an incredibly fun car to drive and the torque is everywhere in the powerband. Like others have said the DSG is lightning quick and if you just leave it in "S" it will actuallly hang the revs when you let off so you are consitantly making boost. I found it more fun to drive in S on an autocross than in the Manual DSG mode. The paddle shifts can be cumbersome when you have a ton of wheel movement.

I can't wait for my BRZ I hope the lighter weight will help with similar power delivery even though its got a 50lbft disadvantage. If the BRZ for some reason turns out not as I expected I've already spoken with my gf and I'll be taking over her GTI lease for the next year until its up. Plus you cant argue with 40-50whp from a good tune.

GTI's look like a moving box. I've never liked VW's and their expensive parts and electronic issues. Just my opinion though.

I guess you could say the same about all hatchbacks ? It will certainly look better than my 07 Honda Fit! Also, the current model GTI has had no electronic issues that I know of.
