bolt pattern probs

i was just curious. i am 15 years old and determined to buy the brz. i have saved up working with my dad up to 5k since i was 13!and i was wondering if i buy some enkei raijin rims ahead of time (like i said determined) would the bolt pattern of a 13-14 brz fit lets say a 16 or 17 brz. long story short do bolt patterns on the same models change over time?

Good on you for working and saving rather than having daddy buy you the car you want. I would say it is unlikely the bolt pattern will change but you won't know until the cars roll off the line as by then they will most likely be 2nd gen 86/BRZ/FRS. Save your money and buy the wheels once you have the car. There is also a good chance a new wheel will come out that you like better than the Enkies anyway and if there isn't you could buy the wheel second hand leaving more money for other mods.

I'd save that money for your down payment and (if you're set on Enkeis) just go with RPF1s. All of Enkei's new wheels are fucking hideous unless you have the widebody for RS05RR.

Why not just elect to buy the '13 or '14 model anyway? By the time you have enough you can get one for cheaper. The only thing happening to these in upcoming years will most likely be some shitty aero.

Bolt patterns can change, take the 2004 vs 2005 STi for example, 2004 was 5x100 then Subaru changed it to 5x114.3 for 2005 and newer.

You'd be better off sticking the money in an interest earning account for the time until after you buy the car. You will then have free money to help pay for the wheels and chances are, by then, they will be less expensive as well.

you're 15. your priority is not buying a car. you have your whole life ahead of you. focus on more important things such as school and figuring out what you want to study. get off the forums and spend your time learning something.

That's absolutely crazy, there's so much to learn about cars and physics and gas combustion from cars it's absurd you'd say that. No one in my family is mechanically inclined but from forums i've completely torn down my old STi and rebuilt it. And what should his priority be at 15? Focusing on college for the next 4 years and absolutely nothing else? I can't believe someone would actually respond with a message like this.


Kid - don't buy parts before you buy your car, things change. Save that money and put it all on the down payment so you have more money each month towards mods than payments.

Perhaps you misinterpreted my message. "Get off the forums and learn something," is telling him to spend his time wisely. Instead of shopping for materialistic things online, time can be better spent elsewhere.

You are correct that there are things to learn on this forum, but these things being discussed barely scratches the surface of any specific field.

There are couple of threads in the suspension section that have some educational value in the field of physics. And with that, I mean there are equations and terms that explains why things behave in a certain way. And with that it will be applicable in college level physics courses.

Thats cool. I am sure you had a fun time and learned a few things. But, do you state that on your resume? Are you making a living rebuilding FB20 and FB25 engines?

I never stated that but since you asked about priorities. His priorities at 15 is to graduate high school, discover/explore what his interests are, and figuring out what he wants to do after high school.

What do you think his priorities should be? Studying physics from car enthusiast forums? Learning about stoichiometry on here? Better yet, DIY engine rebuilds.

Lastly, never finance if you don't have to. Paying for this car in full saves you several thousands of dollars in compounded interest.

Actually, when I was in my senior of college and interviewing around the country for software development/engineering jobs, I was once asked about my hobbies. I mentioned working on cars. The interviewer spent the next 15 minutes with me chatting about our cars, shows, builds we've done, etc. I got an offer for another interview with that company - Microsoft.

Don't discredit the power of hobbies, especially one that can be as technical as ours.
