I traded in my 14' BRZ for a 15' WRX. It's not an STI, but the main thing I'd like to point out is the difference in power.

Driving the WRX home I was applying throttle like I used to in my BRZ and was caught off guard by how much the car wanted to go. It's like night and day. No need to rev to the moon all over the place to get power. I'm sure the STI is going to be similar, and have even better top end too.

My vote would be STI. It's the more balanced choice of the two. Power, AWD, handling, and practical too.

Side note: The wing on the STI is kind of a turn off. In person, it really looks unnecessary, and I think the factory should have an option when you place an order to swap it with the trunk lid spoiler at no charge.

If I wanted AWD I think I'd take a used Evo IV over the new STI...

I thought it had an fa20 DIT??? making 268 hp...

I went from 06 STI to the BRZ limited. I was madly in love with the STI, drove it for almost 8 years, did track days, road trips and daily duty. It was an awesome car to own, and the power + AWD made me feel like a hero on spirited runs/track days.

That being said, I have owned the BRZ for about 11 months, and could not be happier. The steering response is instantaneous, the handling is sublime. Turns I used to feel a bit nervous on in the STI at 35 mph I blast through around 44 mph without even a hint of tire howl. I'm sure I could push it even harder, but it's a public road. The BRZ requires you to carry more speed into the corners to go fast, as it lacks the torque/raw acceleration of the STI, but honestly I think this is more fun than straight line speed anyway. The BRZ requires more driver involvement and provides much more feedback than the STI, but this adds up to the BRZ being the more enjoyable car to drive fast.

The STI is a very easy car to drive fast, as the handling is very forgiving and the traction is fantastic. However, when comparing the ownership experience to a BRZ, there are a few notable deficiencies with the STI.

1. The STI steering just doesn't have the connected feel of the BRZ
2. BRZ shifter is WAY better
3. STI never felt heavy at the time, but in retrospect it was a yacht
4. BRZ is sleeker/sexier (subjective, but truth-asian girls love it)
5. STI is THIRSTY ( I average 31mpg combined in the BRZ, ~21 in STI)
6. The STI is a 4 door, which means you will be driving everyone you know
7. STI seats are nice, but BRZ cradles my butt just right. Never had better.

I know most of my observations are based on the 06 STI, but it does have the same motor as the 15, same size tires, same AWD system, very similar seats and nearly the same weight. The new impreza chasis is said to be stiffer, and I also understand the suspension has been reworked. I drove a 2015 very briefly and can say that it drives like my 06, but better. Felt both tighter and smoother. I can't say that you can go wrong if you decide to go STI, but I can tell you this: I have never loved a car as much as my current BRZ.

Reliability was definitely a consideration when I traded in my 08 sti for the BRZ. The EJ25 has issues:
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-lite...ti-owners.html

I was always on egg shells with that car, but it never did blow up on me. It was a fun car, but even with an extra 100 whp and triple the wtq, somehow, it never felt as fast as the BRZ.

Also worth noting, there are a LOT of us who came here from the STI. There's a reason we were all willing to give up +100 hp/+150 tq.

I read somewhere that 10% of the new STI's come out of the factory without the huge wing. I love it however. I think the WRX looks too plain without it. I'm sure some WRX owner would happily swap trunks though.

I have a 2015 WRX with every option except the overpriced underbody spoilers. The STI is faster and probably a better choice if you track it but that comes at the price of horrible fuel economy and a harsher ride. I prefer the more modern engine and putting my money toward niceties like the HK stereo and short shifter. Also I would be embarrassed for my daily driver to have such an unnecessarily overstated wing, I am a 50 yr old male.

Financially wreckless as it was for me, I kept my FR-S. I've put too much personalization into it and most days I prefer driving it over the WRX. Feel wise it is the better driver. Seats, connection to road, you name it. I'm just glad I have a really cool family car AND a real sports car.

I hate that when Subaru comes out with a new model, they tack on every possible option they can at you. They know the demand is high so they might as well milk the profits. That's why I ordered mine instead.

I debated the wing at first, but I said fuck it, just go balls out. Like the WRX itself, it grows on you. I'm 26 so the wing will perfectly suit me. One thing I learned is to enjoy the moment while you still can. Growing up, my dad was so conservative his whole life, being frugal here and there, but now that he's getting pretty old and is sick, he wishes he had more fun in his life. I know he wasn't struggling financially, but I guess that's just how many Asian families are.

How are the Harman Kardons by the way? I hear the sound quality is still pretty bad, but never got to test them myself. I wish I could just get the keyless access w/ pushbutton start without getting the whole HK NAV package.

The HK ystem is awesome but not over the top.

Funny how I often hear Asians state stereotypes on their elders.

I work in a suburb that is probably 90% Asian, including the light and dark varieties. Its too bad that in my city people choose to be so segregated. Incidentally its a relatively affluent suburb as well. Lots of FOBs here if you know what that is. I go for lunch aalmost every day at Canada's largest Chinese mall. It seems the biggest concentration of the twins, especially the BRZ are in this area as well as STIs. Bet Asians are almost a majority on this forum too, at least in the Canada section.

I guess I have Asian taste

I'm a member of the tribe BTW.
