Now I am driving around a WRX(Stock) and I actually enjoy driving it around on the daily much better. I feel like my needs and wants have changed as I have gotten older. I am getting the mod bug again. Feeling like I wanna push the WRX to 300whp or so with some stance coils.

haha I know exactly what you mean. Like when I drive my s13 aorund it's fun and all but everytime after i drive it I feel really fatigued and just wanna hop in on a more comfortable car.

People mod their car for the same reason gamers build insanely powerful computers that are three or four times more capable of handling all of the graphics, etc of the game that their playing while streaming, or running any other apps that they desire on top of that.

I think the answer is pretty simple - it's your hobby, and no one will really understand that better than you or individuals that share that passion. I think it's insane that some people will spend thousands of dollars on the most modern, advanced kayak and equipment for it just to go dump their boat in a river a few weekends out of the year, but it's their hobby, and it thrills them and makes them happy - and that is what our spare money and time is for.

Given how much time we spend driving, I don't think it odd at all that people will pour money into upgrading various aspects of their vehicle, or customizing it to fit them better; be it changing the feel of the suspension, adding a bit of power, etc.

Now, I'm not sure if you're talking about people who dabble in modding here and there, or if you're referring to turboing, SCing, etc - in which case I presume that the later individuals simply like playing with fire .
it's just a general quesiton that applies to any type of modding I guess. I personally don't understand how some people can spend tons of money on just making their car "STANCE" and some of those guys actually go on to thinking that their cars are fast. I was talking to a buddy not too long ago about how the car scene changed and that just because the car is "STANCED" it's good enough to be entered in a show and go on to win with no other performance parts at all. Maybe I just grew up in the generation where function and form go hand in hand. But to each their own we're all just trying to express ourselves right?

for me, it's a hobby. i felt like this car was an amazing starting platform just begging to be modded. basically, make it unique, and better. better is subjective, but everyone has their own opinion of 'better' for everything in life

Exactly. The RSX was a BLAST to drive on the freeway but with the clutch and upgraded CMC it was just a pain to drive on the streets and in stop and go traffic. The WRX is just much more comfortable and I am digging the "Rally" height where speed bumps don't matter.

After the WRX and RSX it will be hard for me to purchase anything that doesn't come turbo'ed from the factory.

I personally think form and function should go hand in hand. If I was judging a car show a combination of the two would definitely have my vote over just aesthetics.

I don't think I will ever buy a car that is truly perfect for me. I buy a really good platform and work from there.

I mod it because it's mine. Not the banks, or the lending companys, or anybody elses. AND I really don't give a rats ass about the warranty. Push the envelope!

I put a Perrin CBE on because who wants to look at those wonky Forrester tips sitting in the giant cut outs? Now it sounds and looks better.

I don't have my fr-s anymore but I modded it for the same reasons I do my Fj cruiser; I sign the checks that pay it so I can do what I want!!

But for cereal, it makes it more you, when I first bought it I liked it a lot, after the muffler, the cold air intake, all the exterior cosmetics and also a few interior I would walk up to it and smile, get inside and keep smiling, then turn the engine on hear that muffler and grin. Just good seeing something you've made you own.

My car is my hobby and one of the few things I really truly enjoy. Modding it gives me a huge sense of enjoyment and accomplishment since I'm a huge car noob but am still doing all my own installation. I feel it's what makes your car really you and not just a means of transportation.
