Ostentatious blue, man. It's the only way to BRZ.

Hello everyone!

I have this question that's been bothering me for a few weeks now, I spoked with few of my friends and even asked my parents about it. (of course they gave completely opposite answers)

So now I am hoping maybe you guys can share your opinions with me, since we have pretty much all age groups represented here (ones in the workforce for over 20 years, and ones like me who are just starting)

Anyway my question is about color choice of your car and consequences of that choice.
I've pre-ordered Sterling Silver Metallic BRZ. And for some weird reason, now I am crazy about WRB (you know how those things go, you look at a few photos, then videos…etc.)

The problem I'm having is that I am currently working in a relatively small company, and everyone knows what car you drive (parking right in front of the building).
Company itself is a relatively small financial company(tie to work everyday), and I am a new guy there (started about 5 months ago),

So my concern is what are people I work for going to think if I get aggressive blue plasma colored sports car.
Are they going to think, "this guy is a joke, he is not mature enough, who the hell we hired…".
Or do you think they will not be bothered by it, and attribute it to "well he is a young guy, so that's normal/expected".

I've never had to face dilemma like this back in college, since I didn't give a sh!t what others thought. But now it's different, cause it's my career and my salary directly depends on this people.

Well, I know it's kinda personal question, but I was hoping that some you folks that been in the workforce for quite some time, and had to drive sport cars (of bright color) might be able to give me some insights.

Basically, do I stick with a subtle SSM BRZ or do I change my pre-order and go for the one I really want, which is WRB BRZ (again I am not talking about aesthetics here).

p.s. sorry about sperging out
My opinion, if you are at a job that you have to care this much about what someone might think about you based upon a car, then you are at a pretty shitty job.

OP: Who gives a toss?
When I was 37 I bought a JDM Honda Civic Type R, which has a biggish wing on the back and quite frankly is much more shouty a looking car then I would prefer.

I had about a week of people taking the piss in good jest, the boy racer comments, etc..., and I replied in kind. My favorite comment was the guy who sat across from me and enjoys his cars too, he deadpans 'So whats the deal with the Starship Enterprise then?'

It is a flipping car. Unless you are a real estate agent, what other group of pandering professionals cares what car their colleagues drive? You need either a confidence boost or a priorities readjustment if this a genuine issue for you.

I do not mean to be overly harsh, but seriously do not worry about it.

Take your boss to a track day in your BRZ and you'll see two WRB BRZs in your parking lot everyday.

Wow thanks for input guys, I really appreciate it!
I guess you're right I was a little bit overthinking this

The reason I was a little concerned was because my company is a financial planning/wealth-management company, and we have quite a few wealthy folks coming to our office. And since those people can be a little picky about people managing their money, I was not entirely sure what their reaction might be.

But I guess you do have a point, if not now then when?

I was in about the same age as you when I bought my MK1 MR2. At that time I worked for tech company in a Sales office, and everyone there drove company Ford LTD wagons, most of them crap brown. Needless to say my bright red car stuck out in the parking lot like a sore thumb and I worried about the same thing.

In the end, anyone that cared it was because they were into cars and owned something similar. I did get a couple of comments about "hey, they must be paying you too much". When I pointed out it was a $12,000 car, that shut them up. That will apply with this one too. Its really a median priced car for the most part that looks like its $35K+.

Later, at a different company, I had a mid-level manager who was single that bought a 1st year Prowler. His boss DID say something to him about maybe it being a little too flashy for his position. In the end, my boss told him that it was his car, his business.

That is fine advice, and it should be heeded... if this was Communist Russia. I'm glad that boss had a change of heart.

No no, that's when you counter with "well maybe it's time to talk about promotions that'll fit the car "
