^^you're an idiot. Also VW/Audi pays for all your maintenance for 4-5 years...yeah.

Yes the STi is way overpriced when the new WRX will be a better platform for upgrades. You could also take an S3 over to APR and switch out the turbo and do a stage 2 map and make 350-400 whp. In terms of reliability, the STi will cost an arm and a leg less than the audi when its time to get serviced, and cheaper replacement parts.

The people who buy the S3 want a cushy ride with a bit of goose behind the gas pedal. The people who buy the STi want a road legal rally racer (even though 99% of those kids dont use it off road at all).

S3 isn't a hatchback. It's a 4 door sedan. And 99% of STI buyers don't drive it off road b/c without swapping out the suspension you can't. It's way too low for any sort of rally duty. Nevermind needing different tires too.

The only thing "rally" about any of the WRX/STIs ever sold in the US is that they are AWD, so the Audi S3 is just as "rally" as the WRX/STI. The STI is definitely overpriced, but as long as the past gen WRX/STI owners keep flocking to the Subaru dealers to buy them and then try to get $37k for their used 2013 STI model, then the cycle will continue.

So then what's a GTI? The 2 dr or 4 dr?

Hatchback:
noun
a car with a door across the full width at the back end that opens upward to provide easy access for loading.

Now please tell me that the S3 does not have a vertical lifting door in the back and I have been looking at the wrong car this entire time.

Interesting you say 99% of drivers never take it off road, sounds empirical, but then again could be demographically based. Living in the NW, I know a lot of people with impreza's and STi's. Almost 90% of them have taken their car off road.

Are you thinking we're getting the S3 as a hatch? Cause we're not. It's sedan only for the US.

Then yes I was looking at the wrong body style. My uncle had a '08 S3 hatch. Although the new S3 models will be sedan and coupe form.

No actually they can come in hatchbacks, otherwise these wouldn't be for sale
http://m.cars.com/for-sale/#searchre...=GN_REFINEMENT
The new body style is a shortened A4.

AutoExpress recently did this very comparison:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mo8QZxJKGw&list=UUYCgq9pdIv95dnjMPFdk_DQ"]Subaru WRX STi vs Audi S3 Saloon - YouTube[/ame]

Would have been better if they had done an actual track comparison as well, but oh well.

I guess if I wanted a turbo corolla, I'd buy the sti
Or I'd just turbo a corolla, and still look just as cool.

I feel like the sti keeps going up and up in price, and the performance part of it flatlined a long time ago.

No real comments for the Audi, but if I were looking for a high 30's/low 40's car it certainly wouldn't be the STi. I feel like its just over-priced now. So I might go with the Audi because I think the STI is overpriced.

I was actually excited about the S3. Finally audi will bring a car I might consider buying stateside!

Then I did more research, started looking at aftermarket options for the 2.0 TFSI, possible suspension mods, reliability data etc (because I was so excited)...

until I stumbled upon an article saying the US-spec S3 will be automatic only....lol.

then I dgaf'd

Audi is Audi

You're 100% right.

We paid $109K. And the look on the 458's owners face when i passed him was pretty hilarious and perhaps justified the cost. And that noise, to do die for.

Ahh. We call him whiskers.

You're right, I was looking at the older model which shouldn't be compared. Still, color me impressed that the S3 is faster.

ftfy

The original Transporter movie was the best of the bunch as it was all REAL driving without tons of CGI.

Now to the subject of the thread, they're both overpriced in the market these days (then again, one could argue the twins are too).

Also, Golf R? I'd NEVER touch a modern VW product. They're trying to take on Toyota with cheap cars and their quality has gone down the crapper because of it. Even worse, when something does break (and it will), it's far more expensive than other similarly priced cars.

Plus they smell like crayons after a few years in the Texas sun.
