Strange rear end 'click'?

So I notice an odd click/clink from the left rear wheel today(exactly like hot metal cooling down after you shut off the car). It seems to only happen when under load, even at the very slightest. I jacked the rear end up, and with the help of my wife, turned the wheels and everything was smooth. However, when taking off, in 1st or even reverse it will generally occur. It's not a guarantee though, sometimes I don't hear anything, and it's not like a consistent patterned noise, like a rock in the tire. It's totally random.

My first thought was diff, but it drives butter smooth, no weird popping, or grinding at all. I have read some threads about a similar noise, and the culprit being loose axle nuts. So I took the wheel off, and re-torqued it. It barely moved, so I doubt that's it. I'm thinking CV joint, but I can't imagine how?

I AM running OFT, with an e85 tune, but surely that's not enough power increase to be popping CV joints? I'm not lowered, and no wheel spacers, or aftermarket wheels. It's basically an all stock car. No drag racing, or auto cross either, but I do drive it like a sports car, with the occasional spirited country sprint, and sometimes sliding the rear end around a bit. I'm at a loss..

How long have you been driving it? I remember the first time my wife and I went out joyriding and we both heard this - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13451

We were so concerned at the time, I pulled over and searched all around both rear wheel wells.

Nah, it's not the rear deck. I do have that sound though, albeit very faint so I havent messed with it. This is 100% in the left rear wheel well area. I have around 4500mi on it at this point. Just returned from a 750mi trip if that matters any.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I have it. No idea what it is though. Only seems to happen when starting from a stop, and what I perceive to be the left side, because that is where I am sitting. My list of potentials are:

U-joint
Axles

Visual inspection looks fine on everything. No negative effects thus far, and I've probably had it for ~4000 miles. I chalked it up to "because race car"

Lol yeah maybe it's been there for a while I've just not noticed it. Hmm. Really curious though, I will say something about my next dealer visit I guess.

@edeekeos you have said it's not the rear deck but sometimes these noises aren't that directional.

Here's a fix I came up with that fixed all the noises I was getting from the rear of my car. Only takes 30s so worth a try and even if it doesn't fix the loud noise might fix the feint one you have

This definitely is not the rear deck.

If all you've done to the car is an OFT running an E85 tune, I'd run the E85 out and fill up with gas. Flash to a gasoline map (or stock if you are concerned with them flashing over your tune) and heading to the dealership and letting them diagnose/fix it. You have a warranty for a reason, use it.

I have this noise as well, it comes from the rear left side of the car. I can even hear it sometimes when just getting in and out of the car with the car turned off. I have no power mods, just some wheels and tires.

My old car used to make clicking sounds from the rear, maybe the wheels or brakes rotors, no one ever really nailed it down, but I would try torquing your wheel lugs, or even swapping rear wheels side to side.

Just removing and reinstalling the wheels got rid of the clicking on my old car.

Mine just started doing this last night.
I saw another thread on here where the OP posted a video of him running next to the car and the left rear was clicking away.

In that thread they explained that it is the rear axles and they need to be retorqued.
I think I'll just take it to the dealer and ask them to retorque

Yeah, I tried retorquing the axle nut, to no avail. Also, for whats it's worth, I just went and did the rear deck popping fix. Original high piched pop still persists. I will be taking it to the dealer this coming weekend, and see what they think.

I think what they mean is behind the wheel where the U-joints (CVs) bolt to the wheel hub.
