Are the wheels just aluminum? Does anyone know if there's a clear coating. I'm reading some guide and if it is just metal, couldn't I sand it down then just use polish on it? (I already have normal metal polish ).

Thanks,

The one tire rip is actually just in the curb guard moulded in for this purpose. That is purely rubber and designed to protect the rim from mild scuffs. Yours was just a bit too hard. The second tire rip is more concerning, I'd get a tire professional to give you an opinion on that. Damage in the sidewall can be quite dangerous unless it is only a surface cut. Trouble is you don't know how dangerous until you are mid corner....

I have used fine emery cloth to gently smooth out the roughness of aluminum rim scuffs. If you are careful you can smooth out the scrape so as to reduce its ugliness. No need to paint it as long as you keep the wheels reasonably clean. You will find that a lot of the depth of the scrape is actually in the thick epoxy type paint. Gently sanding this scrape will make it a lot less noticable.

Finally, buy one extra wheel and tire and keep the old unit as a spare tire?
