I can tell you why we make the knob lighter in the race cars I've worked on. A heavy weight on the end of a lever is potential energy. Under heavy braking/acceleration that mass will try to stay in motion, and can cause unwanted gear changes. We even do things to the linkage, to negate it's effect, in rear mounted gear boxes. Electronic paddle shift solves these issues though too.

Get the reverse lockout collar from torque solutions i just got it and it gets rid of that gap and the reverselockout fits it

To the OP i have a blox shift knob and they range around 60$ plus to me they are titanium heavy. Its pretty smooth shifting especially since i'm only 16.. But i'm pretty sure they weigh 490grams

I love this shift knob but if I received the correct product (I think someone mentioned theirs covers the entire exposed area) I will definitely be getting the collar from torque solutions .. Thanks Mr. Marinakos.

To the OP they've got some relatively inexpensive spherical knobs there just taking a quick peek if you can find the right threading.

As far as the why question.. Yes to the more confidence shifting through the gates.. Slides just into the intended gear with a smooth butteriness. The actual weight isn't a "huge" difference but noticeably better feel in my op.
