Metal shavings in oil after change.

So last hight I noticed some grain of sand sized metal shavings in my oil after I changed it. Changed it after 6.5kkm, mobile 1 afe. Normal? Probably 10 or so grains of metal total. Pretty sure I heard my car knock once extremely loud last week. It's never happened before.

That doesn't sound right.
Take an oil sample and if you could use other car until find out were the particulate came from.
Any modifications? FI?
Check compression and pay attention to any different or new sound(noise).
Keep post.

I have the oil still. Transfered from my new plastic oil pan to the new oils 4.4l empty jug. Is it still good for analysis? I've never sent an oil sample out before. The engine sounds and runs fine.

You can request a free test kit from BlackStone: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free-test-kits.php

Put your oil in the kit when you receive it and then send it back to them for analysis. I think it's around $25?

Not sure of a quicker method.

Blackstone laboratories is where to send oil for analysis.

However, if the sizes are as large as you state, I'm not sure an oil analysis will do much. They read parts in PPM, large parts are brushed aside for this testing. Post up some photos, that may be able to help us narrow down where the metal came from.

Btw, is this your first oil change? Metal shavings are common during the break-in period.

As mentioned go to Blackstones website. Request sample kit, you should have it within a week or so.

For now pour about 1 - 2 cups of oil out of your jug into a clean glass and cover it with plastic wrap until you get the collection container from Blackstone.

They will remove chunks for analysis but will still tell you what metals are in large quantities. Help you figure out if it's bearings etc.

I have 32,000km on the engine but this was the first change I did myself. I didn't clean out the oil pan with the shavings still in it. I'll post pics when I get home from work.
