Trunk Garnish Question
Hey guys,
So I found out over the weekend someone keyed my rear Subaru logo as well as the trunk garnish that it's connected to. I'm trying to figure out what to do and would really appreciate some input and advice. I just placed an order from the dealership for a new emblem so that part is taken care of. I've narrowed it down to these options: 1. On eBay I'm seeing a lot of CF pieces (around $100), that would go over my stock trunk garnish. How are these compared to a full CF trunk garnish piece? Will they jut out or have gaps along the edges? Also, can I wax these pieces like the rest of the car? 2. Buy a full CF trunk garnish piece (around $220) from Seibon or Carbign. For these pieces, I assume I can wax like normal since there is a clear coat cover on them, but I wasn't sure what piece I need to get. For the BRZ Subaru logo, do I go with the hole-less one or do I need the one with holes? It seems like the rear logo as two pins on the back so I would need to get them with holes? 3. Buy some 3M 1080 vinyl and wrap the keyed garnish that I have. I'll have to sand down the scratch to make it smooth though. For this option, would I need to apply clearcoat on the wrap so that I can wax it like normal? So that's pretty much what I have it down to. I know each option has their pros/cons, but I'm just trying to figure out what the best longterm value is for me. Thanks for taking the time guys! |

Honestly the best long term "value" is to repair/replace the oem trunk garnish to stock. But since you are probably after the CF look I'd go with option 2.
Carbon fiber is hard to implement tastefully. |

Thanks! I'm leaning towards just getting the CF piece as it's going to be $100 to order the stock one and I would have to get it painted so that would be some extra costs there. Do you know how the Subaru badge is applied onto the trunk garnish? I'm seeing two different models for the CF garnish, one with holes and one without. Not sure which one to get as I haven't taken my current garnish and emblem off yet. |

I have the Seibon part personally.
The install is about 95% complete, but they only provide one mounting stud to match up to the key-lock assembly, where there should be two to match up with the factory piece. What I did was to remove the stud assembly from the stock piece and just use it to fasten the lock mechanism to the CF trim. It would have been nice if they had included the additional epoxied stud - not sure why they didn't from the start. I like the weave and gloss finish of the part and the fact that the logo is gone and there are no holes provided either - looks clean ![]() Thanks to @genometuning for this piece. Oh and it DOES add at LEAST 20 hp
