Cool story bro. What's your reason the Gen Coupe is the same size as a Mustang? Americans like to eat??
It's nice to see that your reading comprehension is up to standards. I think I'll leave this discussion where it is.

2 grand buys you a v8? Ok, I guess I'll suffer through it. My prob with the Genesis coupe, beyond the abominable residuals that actually make the car more expensive to own than a Mustang or Camaro V8, is that it's neither here nor there. It's no ultimate performance vehicle. It's not luxurious. It doesn't have a good image. It's pretty, and pretty fast, but not gorgeous and not seriously fast. Meanwhile, the Mustang and Camaro are faster. A Camaro SS 1LE will take a steaming dump all over a Genesis and likely not cost much more after 3 or 5 years of ownership.

2 grand more buys you a Mustang. You'll be living large sitting behind rednecks, cougars and housewives to get that baby dyno'd.

The Genesis Coupe makes a great overall road car. You get a fair share of quality, performance and luxury you most likely will not find until the mid to upper 30,000 range, even the 40s.

You can make an argument for V8 muscle cars all you'd like, but the matter of the fact is that they do not directly compare as an overall package.

R.S Hawk- I am enjoying the perspective you bring to this forum. We all tend to get a little short sighted coming from the same community. Nice to have another voice around, even if I don't always agree with you.

I owned a Gen Coupe for a little over a year before I traded it in for my BRZ. Let me just say that I loved the Gen Coupe from the first time I laid my eyes on it! I stalked the Gen Coupe online for a year before I decided to purchase one. Nothing about that car says Hyundai...at least from the looks alone. Even till this day I still spot some very nice Gen Coupes on the road and will eyeball them.

Now let's take a look at the obvious. I'm currently driving a BRZ for a reason.

My Gen Coupe had nothing but issues...from unfixable rattles from day 1, to the AC not blowing cool air, to transmission issues, to the interior seat panels not fitting together tightly and feeling cheap and loose. Let's just say that every time I got out of my car I had to snap the panels of my driver seat back together. That's where the Hyundai quality starts to show.

Just Google "5th Gear GenCoupe" and you'll find a huge thread about people having issues with 5th gear grind. New Gen Coupe owners were having to have their transmissions replaced just after a few months of ownership! The car looks great I think from the outside, but own one for a while and you'll be reminded that you're driving a Hyundai, even if you rebadge it. lol

Sure, the BRZ has some issues of it's own, but the build quality is far superior to that of a Hyundai. The issues I've come across with my BRZ are fixable within a single trip to my dealership, as opposed to Hyundai where I got the standard response of, "Our technicians didn't find any issues."

At the very least...before you get into speed and power...you have to have a strong foundation. The Gen Coupe couldn't even get the basics right...so who cares how fast it goes.

More HP does not equal a better quality vehicle...and that's obviously what Hyundai has tried to sell people on. People see the HP and stats on paper and think they're buying into a quality vehicle, but give it a year or less and you'll either move to a better car like I did...or you'll try to defend your mistake in buying a Hyundai based on the HP figures.

Sorry, just noticed this thread is aimed towards the 3.8. I drove a 2012 2.0T, which of course was at 210HP I believe. I wasn't lucky enough to drive the upgraded turbo Gen Coupe.

It definitely felt faster than my BRZ. I remember when I test drove the BRZ for the first time I thought it was the slowest thing ever. The sales rep was like, "Oh yeah, you're missing that torque from your 2.0 turbo."

Either way, the lack of power wasn't a deal breaker since the reported 0-60 times of a 2012 2.0T vs 2013 BRZ were basically the same thing...so even though the BRZ felt a lot slower, I knew on paper it was still just as fast.

What sold me was the overall build quality of the BRZ, the feeling of more control with the car and it's handling, and having all the extra bells and whistles that come with a BRZ Limited sure didn't hurt.

Nothing wrong with cougars and housewives. LOL.

I did once set foot into a Hyundai dealership, when the Genesis sedan came out. I was driving a 528i at the time. The Genesis had a mediocre interior, a decent engine, and a terrible chassis. Just awful. A joke. And I never went back. The Genesis wasn't even on my radar when I got the FR-S. It's just a blech car. Really. But you like it. You feel otherwise. Every review of a Hyundai I read goes something like, "Wow, so much better than before. What a great value. What a long list of features. Too bad it drives like crap. We recommend the other brand." After a while, I stopped paying attention. They look great on paper.

Korean phones? Sure. Korean LCDs? Absolutely! Korean cars? Nope. Korean food? Naaaah. Women? Sure.

Hyundai is the Washington Generals of car brands. It's the brand people buy when they want a bargain. It's like shopping at an outlet store. You think you're getting the same product as the retail stores, but you're really getting something inferior.

Really, who walks into their garage and says, "Ah yeah, I got me a Hyundai. Rhymes with Sunday."

Which explains the piss poor residuals.

The Hyundai line has made TREMENDOUS strides in their 2013+ vehicles. The Genesis sedan and coupe leading the pack IMO. The interior is AMAZING on both of them. Tech galore, awesome leather and the power. Ive been stating in no way is the Gen Coupe a Track car, even with Brembos, sport suspension, etc. Its a GT car. And it is a FANTASTIC GT car for the money. Dollar for dollar as an example, a comparably equipped Lexus (against my '14 3.8 GT) IS350 is $46K, and its still underpowered!! I paid like $34K OTD.
