Clay bar will not "correct" the paint. Clay bar will remove contaminants such as metal flakes from your brakes and other stuck-on debris that a simple wash will not. To actually correct the paint, you're talking about removing imperfections in the paint.
That's my opinion anyways.

Opti-coat is almost a double-ended sword to me. There are small scratches on my car (since the dealer washed it.... assholes). Since my paint is "perfect", my imperfections are much more obvious.
Nobody here would ever see them looking at the car, but I know where they are and what kind of light to catch them in so I see 'em.

ANYWAYS, if you're looking into having your car detailed do some research. It's worth it. A good job can get up to and over $1k depending on the condition of your vehicle. I could talk about this forever.

I agree with most of this. But if you're paying 1000$ for a paint restoration, you're getting scammed!

I'm not arguing with you - I do agree that some places go more in depth than others, but that does not justify a 1000$ price tag.

Look through Alpha Auto's Facebook page. You'll see what I mean when I say it's worth the drive. His garage floor is white and it's cleaner than my kitchen. Just saying!

I'm sure everybody here goes to Vlad anyway, so our conversation is moot :p

Not all use Vlad. I go to my garage and spend about $60 and 4 hours of time twice a year... The rest goes to mods.

And Hamza should have insurance. I know my friend does. But I guess when you're working on cars worth upwards of 100k you sort of need it.

Nobody cleans my car but me. Nobody will take as much time and detail as you would cleaning your own car. You also learn of all the new dings and rock chips when you clean it properly yourself.

Clay barring is part of decon stage. It doesn't remove scratches. Actually the opposite might happen if you are not careful.... you may have clay bar marring if improperly used.

BTW, when was the last time you clay barred your car Ken? lol. You gotta do it once a year.

Nope! Just a general statement.

I saw somebody advertise a special in a facebook group. A $30 "detail". Obvious way too good to be true, and it was. This "detail" was a wash, a wax, and interior vacuum.
IMO, a detail requires paint correction. We could argue that a car which is detailed a couple times a year and is well taken care of won't always need paint correction, but let's ignore that for a second.

That's a great way to get new business for people whom are unaware of how detailing works. They think they're getting a great deal, when in reality they aren't.

I'm very opinionated when it comes to detailing, sorry if I'm offending anybody lol

No way you could detail a car for $30, although you may be able to clean it somewhat depending on its condition. But at $30, someone is for sure rushing the process and may damage it further in doing so.

A detail doesn't need to include paint correction as that's anywhere from a 3-8 hour process on its own typically. If you take care of your car and wash it properly, you shouldn't need to fix the paint.

Correct, detailing doesn't mean you also need to do a paint correction (not to be confused with polishing). Paint correction is serious stuff, takes a long time and money. It's about what a customer wants or needs. Some people can't stand swirls/scratches, others see it as normal and/or don't care.

We do have these "paint correction" discussions very frequently on FB and forums. But I believe as a detailer you need to educate a potential client first, give recommendations and ultimately let the client decide which route he/she wants to go.

Clay-barring doesn't affect the Opticoat?

I have that fancy car shampoo you recommended too.

I need those good buckets with the grit-traps in them next - for now I use a fancy mitt and just apply the soap to it and rinse it off after I do a section - not very efficient and a waste of soap

My car doesn't get out very often either so I might clay bar it next spring.

What a terrible day yesterday was. I had to swerve to avoid some idiot side swiping me and put it up on a really high median pretty roughly. He of course didn't even seem to notice and just kept going. I defiantly did some serious suspension/who knows what else damage, it wasn't drivable.

I'll be out of commission for a while until it gets repaired.

I hope I get it back in time for 86expo
