For those of you thinking about buying a helmet for autox or lapping, check this place out!

http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street...all_types/hjc/

They still have close out pricing (even lower than what I paid in April 2014)
Use thier measuring guide for sizing - it worked for me as my helmet fits great

Cheers
Ken

Carry a valve stem remover. If there is any damage to your vehicle from someone being a douche.... Well.... You can figure out the rest.

Or you can always use the nice smash their mirrors off and maybe they'll think twice next time they want to be an asshole.

I feel like this always happens to me. If it's a nice/new car I don't mind.

Of course 99% of the time is a beater.
People just have no clue what my car is though. Most people that talk to me about it ask what it is and have never seen one.

Joys of living in a rural community lol

Bad situation there. Other than trying to properly resolve the situation, I see a few red flags from the detailing job itself:
  • No paint correction done before applying Opticoat which should've happened. Detailer indicates that the swirls must've showed up only after removal of the wax and the wax probably hid them.
  • One handed buffing should never happen.
  • Proper inspection before delivering the vehicle to the owner would've revealed the swirls and should have been corrected beforehand.

Makes me appreciate Vlad @Upper Class Detailing even more!

When I had my car Opti-coated we didn't really do a correction as the car was 3 days old. Super quick buff though... It's crazy how this guy operates.
Also my Opti-Coat was done with a j clutch wrapped around a sponge.

He seems super sketchy

Exactly, if no swirls then it's prep for Opticoat which still usually involves a quick polish to get rid of any factory/dealer prep blemishes.
But seems that Hamza only removed the wax, didn't check for swirls and then just Opticoated.
Good to know we have some solid detailers in town here.

Vlad recommended "paint correction" - basically clay-barring if I'm not mistaken - and my car was fresh from the dealer too.
Glad I let him do it too

That seems to be the issue though - you never know who's good and bad until you hear stories like this, unfortunately. Detailers have their own little world & they can tell who's good or not.

For us regular costumers, any picture taken with a dslr can make a car look good. That's why reviews are so important, good or bad.

Makes me thankful for Alpha Auto Spa in Toronto @brianc

See detailers are such crooks at times...

Paint correction could be considered clay barring and a slight polish I guess. However it can also be a 3-step polish. It depends who you talk to and if they've seen the car.

Clay bar will not "correct" the paint. Clay bar will remove contaminants such as metal flakes from your brakes and other stuck-on debris that a simple wash will not. To actually correct the paint, you're talking about removing imperfections in the paint.
That's my opinion anyways.

Opti-coat is almost a double-ended sword to me. There are small scratches on my car (since the dealer washed it.... assholes). Since my paint is "perfect", my imperfections are much more obvious.
Nobody here would ever see them looking at the car, but I know where they are and what kind of light to catch them in so I see 'em.

ANYWAYS, if you're looking into having your car detailed do some research. It's worth it. A good job can get up to and over $1k depending on the condition of your vehicle. I could talk about this forever.

Yeah, claying isn't paint correction. It is considered decontamination.

Paint correction is removing defects in the paint like scratches (light or deep), swirls and water spots.
Decontamination is removing materials sitting on the paint like rail rust, tar/road grime and overspray.

Seems Hamza didn't actually do paint correction. Sounds like he only removed the wax then applied the Opticoat without any polishing.
