Auto throttle / Anti stall mods discussion
A friend of mine suggested if anything can be done with the available mapping solutions to allow for a sort of auto throttle anti stall setup. So imagine your in traffic and you have to balance throttle and clutch to keep rolling and stopping. Now what if all you had to do was let go of the clutch and the ecu would add throttle. This would be ideal if it can be switched on and off. I am thinking using the sport button to toggle this. Our cars already have something similar when cold. Try it next time the car is cold and you will find that you can let out the clutch without applying throttle and the car would move without stalling. Can something like this be programmed?

Set your idle speed to 1500RPM. That said it seems a bit silly to me.

Ok, question is can it be something linked to the sport button? Meaning if I select sport mode idle will be 1500?

you can also put a brick on the gas pedal, and just bounce off the limiter. When you need to go forward, just put the car in gear and release the clutch.
This also works well for hills. So its like a hill/traffic assist. Caution though, now that this idea is out scion will release a new frs special edition with this feature. It will be called the FRS Monogram 10 Series 1.0 HT(hill/traffic). Pre-order now, only 100,000 will be made. |

This does sound like a good idea.

Set the idle based on gear, I think you can do this in ecutek. If 1st gear set idle to 1,200 or something.

Why even bother? You can get the car moving without throttle in 1st gear with a normal idle. I do it in traffic ALL the time when using the gas would get me going too fast.
If you're bored (or traffic REALLY sucks) you can get up to 3rd gear without using the gas at all too.

You can easily get to 6th gear without throttle.

Wanted to revisit this issue and maybe 3 years later someone has an idea on how it might be done. As much as some of the earlier posts were helpful i still cant get the desired function. Refer to the first post please to understand what is being asked.

Unless you skilled at ECU coding/programming (actual functional code changes not just altering existing maps) you going to need ecutek. Ecutek can activate/deactivate custom maps based on position of sport or Trac buttons. Unfortunatly ecutek doent have a custom map intup or output function to directly control idle speeds. Then you going to have to experiment with custom maps for stuff like load vs rpm vs vehicle speed and add throttle under certian conditions. you would have to test it very carefully so it not going to launch you into the car in front under certain conditions. Im sure it could be done to some degree, but would require a lot of testing so it would not be dangerous. Im pretty sure my 2012 manual Toyota corolla has something like this as if you nearly stall it, my natural reaction is to quickly depress the clutch, and the car then revs at about 2000 for a second with no throttle input, its kind scary sometimes. Im not sure id want something like that on a brz. The best way ive found to smooth low rpm is to get maf scaling correct at idle and low rpm. |
