USB mic

Has anyone tried using a USB mic on this unit?
The bluetooth call quality on this is horrible for me. I was wondering if a USB mic placed closer to the driver might work better?

(the positioning of the mic on this unit on RHD cars is not ideal)

I'll be looking back through this thread to see if I can figure it out, but if anyone could give me a step-by-step on how to hook up the new unit, I'd be extremely grateful.

FYI, it's a BRZ I'm putting it in; I've got the antenna, Aux, and USB adapters linked elsewhere in this thread, but I'm as confused on those as I am on the HU itself.
Update to the above: With the help of a friend of mine, I got it installed and online. About the only thing I didn't get hooked up is the factory Aux port (and I had to do some heavy jury-rigging on the USB adapter; too much jostling and that might stop working).

Rather disappointed that the default music player doesn't support playlists. This is BASIC FUNCTIONALITY, Ca-Fi, get on the ball.

Also, the trim panel around the HU doesn't sit quite flush on the right side like it used to; it seems to be catching the lip on the right side of the HU, but no finagling I did got it to sit properly.

Mine also isn't flush right now. Haven't managed to get it back to flush yet. To work around the playlist issue, I just have a folder created on my SD card to act as a playlist. The shuffle restricts itself to the same folder, so it's basically the same thing.

Another weird thing happening is that my Play Store isn't working properly. It says app downloads are starting, but nothing really happens.

That doesn't help me, as I can't stand shuffle mode. I like my music to play in a specific order, and without playlist support, I have to go through and manually rename every single fecking file so that they'll sort into the proper order. No thanks.

What did you have to do to the USB adapter? That's literally the easiest part of the install.

The Aux stuff was posted earlier in the thread, I think DC2R or Deathalo gave me some good instructions when I asked. Just follow that and you'll be good.

I think you'll find like the rest of us that all of the stock apps suck, but those really aren't the point of the head unit. Definitely get a 3rd party music player to get the most out of your purchase!

You need to bend or file down the mounting brackets just a few millimeters and push the head unit all the way forward. That'll make the center bezel trim fit flush again.

Exactly... this thread has become crowded as of late, a lot of new people just showing up and ordering this, so exuse me and some of the original people who have been on this thread if we seem frustrated with some of the questions..but.... All of you need to do some heavy reading through this thread (or even just a search), to answer simple questions that keep getting reposted. It's cluttering everything up asking the same question about the AUX adapter, and the fascia not sitting flush, etc.. These have been answered thoroughly in the past, with great and helpful instructions (with pictures!). If you buy this thing without first reading through or if you run into issues and post without first searching, you're doing yourself and the others in this thread a disservice.

Maybe @SHIFTER can help everyone out by posting links to the helpful individual posts in this thread on his original first post. Posts about the AUX adapter install and pin placement, posts about rooting, posts about bending the front of the bracket and which holes to use, links to all useful adapters. If it's too much I can always start a new thread with said information for newcomers, but I figure it'd be better to consolidate.

On another subject though. VIPER IS more than just an equalizer, it is a software driven audio processor, it has different levels of processing power, which is why the max level requires a high power dual core processor (but the high quality is great and works great on this unit). Viper, when properly configured, makes this unit sound quite fantastic.

Exactly. The whole point of this unit it's that you can install whatever apps work for you. I am not surprised in the least bit that the Chinese music player sucks.
Read the thread and you will find most all answers.

I could not find a way to get the adapter I ordered to connect to the back of the factory USB/Aux module. I had to splice it and another USB cable into a male-to-male cable and remove the metal shield from the plug on one end to get it to plug in to the module and make proper contact.

I'll go back and look for it, but as long as the USB is working, the Aux is of lesser importance to me.

Which part of the brackets? This was one thing I couldn't figure out. I remembered something about modifying the mounting brackets, but I couldn't remember or figure out which part of the bracket needed modifying, as I was able to get everything lined up fine without doing so (or so I thought until I tried putting the trim panel back on).

Poweramp seems to be a paid app, and thus a last-resort.

Agreed, the thread is bloated. I read through it probably 3 times before my unit arrived, and still can't remember a lot of the info that gets posted.

Who knows. Once I connected for the first time with FoxFi - I was able to ditch FoxFi and now it connects without it directly to the Verizon hotspot.

Who knows.

Enjoy the new unit! It's a hoot.

A quick note on your USB adapter, if it didn't easily fit, then they sent you the wrong adapter. You should not have spliced anything, you should've just returned it to the Amazon store you bought it from and ordered again from a different store or something. I don't know what has happened recently with the USB adapter but people are receiving the incorrect adapter from one merchant on Amazon and it's fucking everything up, because the correct adapter is literally simple plug and play, if you can snap in a dog collar you can snap this together. Let this be a lesson to everyone and anyone who has received the wrong adapter, please bitch and complain to the store you bought it from until you get the right thing and/or a refund, plenty of us ordered this without issue, but somewhere down the line people started getting the wrong adapter.

A quick note on Poweramp, if you spent close to $600 on this whole HU but can't afford 4 bucks for the absolute best option in terms of audio player (and one of the only ones that can right away read from USB no problem)... well then I can't help you...
