I know the boost in this charger is short lived but are users running into any issues with overheating and or high oil temps? Very interested in this product but being overly cautious. Also i like the name electric turbo vs supercharger. My reasoning is the boost is not tied into the rpms via pully at all and is more on off boost like a turbo. I recall people trying to come up with a more appropriate name earlier and this is my contribution.

I have stock hood/vents and thrashed it for a good 20mins or so fairly soon after installation in about 80°F temps. I didn't see any issues. I know @fenton and a few others did run into heat issues a little at the track and even just in 100°F weather with lots of pulls. They built a little custom cooling solution and have been much better since. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think boofneenee was asking about the engine coolant/oil temp more than the esc controller temp.

Full throttle Electric Supercharger Build Thread
Ah, I assumed both -- overheating the controller and high oil temps. I see what he's getting at now.

It's a supercharger, because it it driven in a mechanical manner. Turbo's are driven by the exhaust, period. Now if you had a generator driving the centrifugal supercharger, off of the exhaust, that would get confusing.
![]() Opp's, it already happened, TRD and racing, those smart alleck's.

I'm back up and running after my little run in. Turns out after voltmeter measurements that the batteries and controller actually survived the short at the oil place successfully. Rob can attest to the damage as he saw the terminals.
There were some connections that were loose where I was pretty sure I tightened well. After some retorquing we're back in business. No telling whether the oil dude actually played with connections while he was tinkering or if I just didn't tighten well enough and they naturally slipped. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If there has been one piece of advice I keep hearing about the phantom, it's "check connections".. should I use some thread lock when I install? Or is there some way to keep the connections from backing out?

Honestly, in most cases it's probably user error in just being a little too shy on the screwdriver. I think mine got inspected and poorly reattached. Just make sure you give it a good tighten and you should be alright.

Thanks, I'll do that.
It's now July. Hopefully only 30 more days till I can try the Phantom for myself. |
