It sounds like the insurance company you spoke to does not want to insure you. So they hit you with a huge premium knowing you won't pay it. Just go elsewhere.

Careful here buddy. He was asking a question.
He's trying to help you figure out why your quotes are so high. If you can't answer some simple questions that could help us, then why are you asking? So, for basic questions: Age? Employed? Marital Status? Was the wreck your fault? Speeding tickets? Lots of factors are counted with car insurance. My car was quoted for around 300$ a month on the first quote I received. I ended up paying 1/3 of that by shopping around. Anyway, if you want help, be polite, answer the questions and don't act like you're the shit around here, because you're not. Everyone is equal, if you need help, be polite.

OP I was in pretty much the same dilemma, I just didn't carry auto insurance for years when I was in college and rarely drove. The only way I was able to even get auto insurance with State Farm was that I held renters insurance with them for a year, so they were like OK and shoehorned me in, but on an auto policy that's pretty pricey, luckily not as bad as yours.
My advice, and it's something I wish I had done, would be to buy a regular econo car and insure that for a year, and sell it and then get an 86, then you'll have no gap in coverage and have a better established record after your wreck. |

I dont have any tickets. i had 1 at fault, which was a pot hole and the total was because my insurance was too lazy to order me new seats for my 2007 tiburon they didnt make anymore -- it was water damage / mold from sprinkler when it was vandalized/broken into . I havent driven in two years because I was without a car that long. FL is a pita --

Secondly: Thanks for giving us an explaination for the "total" of your car by your car insurance. Now we know it's not you that was at fault in that case and that you don't have any tickets. Third: Did you do multiple quotes or just get one? Also, you might want to follow some of the advices in this thread and get a beater to get your "insurance score" up a bit, might help to reduce the quotes and get a better deal. And we still need to know how old you are, because that influences the insurance quote by a LOT. |

Age won't affect it quite as much as a female. It's the "lapse" that's killing her. She's considered to have had no insurance, even though she didn't have a car. I've seen it happen to people who let theirs lapse for 30 days when they have no car - it skyrockets. It's a really stupid way of doing things, but I guess they assume that you had to drive SOME even if you didn't have a car.

Here is what I posted: "Do you have any prior accidents or a DUI on your record? Was your car getting totaled your fault?" And for that it is supposed to be OK for you to call me fucking names?? You ask a question on a forum, then you wait over a week before coming back to bash the people trying to help you? How about you go fuck yourself. |

lapse in coverage will raise your rates. Also a low/no credit history will cause you issues. For reference, my boat, crv, truck and frs cost $72 per mont. I have liability on the truck and boat and full coverage on the frs and crv.
In FL, my boat insurance was more than that. Now that I title it in OH, it's only an extra $6 per mo. |

My insurance more than doubled when I moved from Tennessee to New Orleans. The drivers down here are easily the stupidest I have encountered in any of the nine states in which I've lived. It's really a wonder they don't have more wrecks. I can't figure out how they're able to see where they're going with their heads shoved up their asses. |

whoo hoo! I live in MI, and let me tell you just how fu(king awesome it is -_-
This is the first year I haven't paid over $2,200 for 12months of coverage. I have a pretty complicated insurance history, though, since I've had a few points, a few small tickets, and have been married, but only insuring one vehicle (which jacks up your rate), among various other bizzar senarios. Insurances consider a lot of different things when factoring their rates, and a lot of it is out of your control. It suuuuucckckkskksksk |
