FL = no insurance with no car + high rates?!!
Well apparently I'm a dummy?
I lost my job then my car was totaled last year so for the last year and I have been without a car since-- I didn't have car insurance because I HAD NO CAR! But car insurance agents are quoting me so much $2000 / 6 months *in full* for FR-S if i paid the other price per month is comical... because I didn't carry auto insurance !???? they said florida is a no fault state and owning a drivers license you are required to be on someone elses insurance in the household or get your own until you get a car. WHAT A FUCKING SCAM!!!!!!!!! I swear insurance is such a scam. I had a hit and run on my last car and where i lived it skyrocketed now that i had a total -- due to a break in and weather (ruined my car) this all caused my insurance to skyrocket Anyone in florida have a good Insurance Agent? I am so screwed. I was about to purchase FR-S this month too  Maybe i need a beater car then wait until my credit score goes up and insurance goes down? |
Sucks the situation you are in.. how old are you?
|
I get the feeling there is something the OP is not telling us.
Do you have any prior accidents or a DUI on your record? Was your car getting totaled your fault? |
its unfortunate but i wouldnt call it a scam. if i was the person who was insuring someone, i would want a fuckton of money if they came to me without previous insurance and their last car was totaled.

Hmm. Seems insurance that high might be the result of some "issues". http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/car-insurance.php

I have 3 wrecks under my belt, 2 no faults and 1 my fault ( playing to much lol ).. and 1 speeding ticket 14 over.. 22 and mine on my FRS is 160~ a month.

Florida is an absolute scam for insurance. My guess is, you're under 25?
|
$2000/6 months is $333 a month.
I pay ~$80/month. |
I didn't know Florida required insurance if you don't drive a car. I don't think Florida does. My impression was that you need car insurance if you drive a car, regardless if you own the car or not.

Call it a ripoff if you want, but a perceived "wreckless" driver on the road (according to them) in a state known to have the WORST drivers in the entire US, driving a two door sports car might call for higher rates..
My advice to the op is to do what I do every 6 months and shop around. Progressive gave me an awesome rate this time so I went with them over farmers and geico previously. I'm 27 in Florida and I'm paying a little under 90 a month. Good luck, hopefully you get something better than that initial quote you have there. |

i pay 130 a month for the FRS, im 24, no accidents and 1 speeding ticket the 130 is for two cars, but my second car only costs an extra 6 dollars a month |
When I was 16-19, living in Florida (West Palm as well), I was paying about $300 a month for my car with zero wrecks. I had a 300ZX Twin Turbo, but still, it sounds about right.

The insurance on my Golf is $88/mo and the insurance on the FR-S is $126 in Florida. You need to shop around more...I'm 25 no at fault accidents in 6 years and just a wreckless driving ticket 2 years ago is all that's on my record (speeding up to make a green turn signal)
